Director of Development and Engagement
Mission 44 • £75k to £85k

Across the UK, pervasive social, educational and economic inequalities still prevent too many young people from fulfilling their potential. We’re determined that this will change. Mission 44 is a new charitable foundation launched by Sir Lewis Hamilton to boost social mobility in the UK. It aims to support, champion and empower young people from underserved communities to succeed through narrowing opportunity gaps in education, employment and wider society. Through grant-funding, research, partnerships and advocacy, Mission 44 will drive long-lasting, transformative change to the lives of young people facing disadvantage and discrimination. We will work closely with young people and communities with experience of diversity and inclusion challenges, to better understand the opportunities for innovation and co-create solutions that make a meaningful impact.

This role has two principal accountabilities: raising and increasing the funds we need for our work, and telling our compelling story of social change and transformation in a way that attracts support and strong partnerships. Candidates will have an exceptional track record of securing income from a range of sources - partnerships, sponsorship, events, and grants – and will be energised by the chance to be in at the start of an innovative new organisation that’s boosting social mobility in the UK. This is a leadership role in the organisation, and it’s your opportunity to make a fundamental contribution to its growth and development on a robust and sustainable financial base. There’s already a significant buzz about our brand and our ambitions, and real interest from funders and affiliates.

Like us, you’ll be passionately committed to enabling young people to thrive and fulfil their potential, and you’ll have built your career to date around making that happen. With a thorough professional knowledge of fundraising and strategic communications, you’ll relish the chance to work in a new and growing organisation. You’ll combine astute strategic capability with a practical, can-do style: your flexible approach, going the extra mile, and thinking around problems in a creative and positive way will inspire the whole team to deliver outcomes. A skilled and personable communicator, you’ll convey our brand values clearly and compellingly, so that reputational alignment and mutual benefit underpins of all our partnerships. We’re open to a range of backgrounds, including public, commercial and educational spheres as well as the third sector; but it’s essential that you have a sophisticated understanding of the Foundation’s operating environment and critical success factors. Finally, you’ll need to be adept at managing relationships with high-profile brands (and people) with confidentiality and discretion.

Diversity matters at Mission 44. We offer a working environment that values and respects every individual’s unique contribution. We want to attract the broadest range of talented people and are committed to equality of opportunity and anti-discrimination practices. We positively encourage applications from all sections of society and are particularly interested in attracting applications from candidates from diverse groups who are underrepresented.
