About us

In prison, with little or no outside contact, people often feel hopeless and lonely and as though there is nothing for them. Through writing letters and visiting, this organisation gives people in prison in England and Wales hope and optimism that there is a future. By befriending this organisation it enables people to feel connected, providing them with a sense of identity and belonging, and in doing so helps them to reconnect with the world outside.

This organisation's befriending helps people to trust, sometimes for the first time, and in turn to become more trustworthy; it is non-judgemental and impartial, enabling people to be themselves, to learn and to better understand themselves.

This organisation supports just under 300 volunteers to write to and visit around 550 people in prison across the UK by giving them intensive training and ongoing support through a network of monthly support groups in operation across England and Wales.

About the role

This organisation is looking for a charismatic and engaging Chief Executive to lead their small but highly dedicated and experienced team to move the company to the next level so that it can facilitate friendships between even more volunteers and prisoners.

About you

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a five-year sustainable strategy for the organisation and will then be expected to deliver the strategy with passion and commitment.

Previous experience in criminal justice is preferable but not essential, as is previous experience in a fundraising capacity. However, a proven track record developing and delivering strategies in a small organisation is essential. This experience should include demonstrable financial and people management skills, as well as working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Closing Date: Friday 26th November 2021 at 18:00
Interview Date: w/c Monday 13th December 2021

Equal opportunity, location and access

This organisation is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, pregnancy, maternity, disability, or gender identity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. However location is a practical constraint as their office is above an old church. There is a stone staircase of 25 steps to reach the office and no lift. The role will also require some travel to the 23 Volunteer Support Groups around England & Wales.

They also welcome applications from people who have served a prison sentence or have a family member or close friend in prison. Please tell them if you are in that category either in your application or during the interview.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

After you have followed the job board process, you will receive an email from CHM Recruit with further details on how to complete your application.

Please check your email inbox and spam / junk mail folder and disregard any automated email correspondence from the job board.
