Family Support Officer
We have an exciting opportunity for an Information, Advice and Family Support Worker to develop and maintain a high quality information, advice and family support service and to support a diverse group of parents/carers.
Position: Information, Advice and Family Support Worker
Location: Uttoxeter Road, Derby
Hours: 18 hours per week (to include one fixed day spent in the Ronnie McKeith Centre 9.30am-3.30pm)
Salary: £11.36 per hour
Contract: Permanent – Subject to funding, there is currently Lottery funding for this role until October 2024
Benefits: 22 days per annum plus 8 Bank Holidays – all pro rata to hours worked, Pension scheme, flexibility on days, cycle to work scheme, birthday club

The Role
As Information, Advice and Family Support Worker you will provide information, advice and support to parents/carers of disabled children individually and in group sessions.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Signpost parents/carers to appropriate services for their whole family
- Supporting parents/carers to access and engage with services as appropriate
- To hold a small caseload of families who need early intervention support
- Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with staff working with disabled children and their families employed by other local agencies
- Develop a high level of knowledge of local services
- Facilitate a comprehensive range of well supported parent support groups across the area
- Supporting and directing volunteers to provide peer support and help with group activities
- Collating and reporting on relevant statistical and other performance information
- Working with parents/carers to continually improve the service
About You
As Information, Advice and Family Support Worker, you will have the drive, integrity and enthusiasm to support the parents/carers and volunteering team and will have a genuine understanding of the issues that face disabled children, young people and their families.
You will have:
- Previous experience of working with parents and carers of disabled children
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Experience of working with sensitive/confidential information
- Experience of providing information and advice
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- A basic understanding of services available to disabled children and their carers and an understanding of the legal framework for the provision of services to disabled children and their parents/carers
You will hold a current driving licence and have your own transport and be eligible to hold a current enhanced DBS check.

The organisation gives disabled children and young adults opportunities that non-disabled children take for granted and supports any family with a disabled child or young adult aged 5 to 30. The charity is able to support a child or young adult no matter what their disability as our services are person centred to meet individual needs.
