Job Details

For the last 10 years, we have been delivering a highly impactful Social Enterprise Schools programme to 1000’s of students across Scotland.  In the last 4 years this programme has expanded beyond Scotland with delivery in Australia, South Africa, Malawi, Malaysia and England.

We ask pupils, “If you could create a business to solve any social issue in your community, country or the world, what would it be?” The result? Innovative social enterprises that are completely pupil-led, trading based and solving the issues that matter most to them.

From making sustainable crafts to funding community defibrillators to tackling local unemployment through computer coding classes, these young people are stepping up, taking action and making change happen.

Following a successful pre-COVID pilot, we have a number of schools in London that have participated in the Social Enterprise Schools programme within a few highly committed boroughs. There is growing interest in the programme and a recognition of the transformational impact it has on young people, increasing their confidence and skills to find ways to address social and environmental issues they care about.

We are now looking for a highly capable, entrepreneurial and inspiring leader with the focus and energy to build on the existing interest and lead the development of the programme in England.  We want to create the best conditions possible to allow young people in England to unleash their social entrepreneurship talents.

Your role will be to shape, lead and project manage the roll out of the Social Enterprise Schools programme starting primarily in London. Working closely with the Education Team in Scotland and the Associate Education Facilitators based in London, you will coordinate activity in existing boroughs and develop opportunities in new boroughs. You will forge new partnerships and drive the sustainability and expansion of the programme. You will engage with the private and public sector, trusts and foundations to secure new sources of funding, sponsorship and support for the programme. Over time, you will grow and expand the team and geographical reach of the programme.

Reporting to the CEO of the Academy, working closely with our Head of Social Enterprise in Education and our Global Learning Lab on product development and innovation, you will ensure the programme continues to maintain the high quality, impact and key success factors at its core.

You will be joining the Academy at an exceptionally exciting time as we grow the programme in Scotland and expand delivery of Social Enterprise Schools in England and internationally.

Having the right entrepreneurial mind-set, attitude and approach is as important for us as having the right experience and skills. We appreciate that the best person might not have all the criteria we have listed, so if you feel your experience and skills will help you to make a great contribution in this role and you have the right mind-set, we would welcome an application from you.

For more information and a full set of criteria please download the recruitment pack from our website.

The Social Enterprise Academy is a social enterprise that connects changemakers with transformational learning and development.

Created in 2004, we deliver innovative leadership and entrepreneurship programmes that empower individuals, communities, and organisations in Scotland and internationally to become more sustainable and have greater impact.

Through our Social Enterprise Schools programme created in partnership with The Scottish Government, we will provide every young person in Scotland the opportunity to run their own social enterprise by 2024.  By stepping up to solve the issues that matter most to them, young people of all ages and abilities also develop essential skills for life, learning and work.
