ALDER HEY CHILDRENS CHARITY

About us

Alder Hey Children’s Charity raises vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children’s Hospital a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital for the 330,000 patients and families we care for every year.

The charity helps to fund a range of activities and projects that are designed to enhance and improve the lives of our amazing young patients. This includes the funding of specialist medical equipment to ensure our brilliant surgeons and clinical staff have the most up to date and cutting edge technology available and funding hi-tech distraction equipment designed and proven to reduce pain and anxiety in our patients. We also fund a range of programmes and special projects such as our ward musicians, our on-site magician and the play specialists we have on every ward.

In Spring 2020 we launched our £3m Children’s Mental Health Appeal. Our 7 in 10 Appeal highlights that 70% of young people with a mental health condition are currently missing out on vital mental health interventions at a sufficiently early age. The Appeal is aiming to raise vital funds to enhance inpatient and community mental health services at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, enabling more children to access the treatment they need at the time they need it, an already vitally needed service which is seeing increasing demand due to the impact of Covid-19.  We have also recently launched our new Surgical Neonatal Appeal to raise £2.5m towards a brand new, state of the art Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the hospital.

About this role:

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Trusts and Foundations Manager to work with an enthusiastic and experienced team here at Alder Hey, the UK’s busiest Children’s Hospital.

We’re looking for a natural relationship builder, someone who is passionate about fundraising with lots of experience securing high value gifts from trusts and foundations. You’ll also be an inspiring manager and an excellent collaborator, who enjoys working to co-create visionary propositions around the charity’s strategic priorities. If you’re excited by the sound of this, we’d love to hear from you!

The role will lead Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s trusts and foundations income stream including developing and implementing the Trusts and Foundation’s strategy, annual plan and budget for sustainable growth and contributing to our capital fundraising campaigns and the development of ‘wow’ projects.

You will also be responsible for managing a wide variety of internal stakeholder relationships with senior colleagues in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver the fundraising plan for the Trusts & Foundations income stream, including creating and meeting income targets and KPIs.
  • Lead, line-manage and develop the Trusts and Foundations Team, including carrying out regular 121s, development reviews and annual appraisals.
  • Build, manage and maintain a full and consistent pipeline of prospects and ensuring timely progression through each stage from identification to stewardship.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of our biggest funders, both existing and new, delivering excellence in relationship management to meet an individual fundraising target from high value trusts and foundations.
  • Ensure reporting requirements and funding criteria for all grants are met, corresponding effectively with funders using creative and engaging methods of communication.
  • Lead and work with colleagues and clinicians in the development of funding proposals, including world leading innovation projects and capital appeals.
  • Be an active and supportive member of the Alder Hey Children’s Charity team, contributing to the team’s development and working collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers.
  • Be the lead specialist in Trusts and Foundations fundraising and maintain strong knowledge of relevant legislation and good practice.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of trends and developments in the sector, through completing relevant training, reviewing relevant press and publications and keeping up to date with industry news.
  • Gain and maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Charity’s work, priorities and future plans and represent the Charity at functions and events, to promote the objectives of the Charity.
  • Be an outstanding advocate for Alder Hey Children’s Charity in line with the core values of the organisation.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager.
