Mencap's vision is for the UK to be the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives. Mencap now has over 8,500 employees and 2,000 volunteers.

We have just agreed our new strategy, called the Big Plan and are now seeking three trustees to join the Board. You will find Mencap in a strong position to enter a season of innovation and increased impact.

If you share our vision, then please consider whether your experience meets our three role profiles:

• Financial management and strategic development – Given Mencap’s size, regulated
environment, vital service provision, diverse income streams, and the risk complexities of
multi-faceted personal services, our expectation is that this role requires someone with
significant experience of effective financial management alongside the management of
strategic change within dispersed operational contexts.
• Community-led change – This trustee would offer innovative, entrepreneurial approaches to
centring their organisations on the people for whom that organisation exists. These could be
recipients of services, customers, students, community groups etc. They will have identified a
challenge to their community and mobilised multiple stakeholders to address this challenge
creatively, leading without operational control over partners.
• Organisational transformation – This trustee will have experience of effecting major change
in organisations to make them more responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people
they serve, for example through self-directed teams, ‘Teal’ approaches, listening and learning
cultures, and environments fostering responsiveness and innovation. They will bring an open
approach and creative thinking to the particular issues facing people with a learning disability.
