Job Summary

Martlets is a values-driven organisation that stands for dignity and compassion in hospice care. For almost 25 years it has enabled people to find hope, purpose and possibility in the face of a terminal diagnosis. This exceptional charity is now seeking an exceptional new CEO at an exciting and pivotal time for the organisation.

Martlets directly provides hospice care and support to over 3,000 people every year across Brighton and Hove and coastal Sussex. Over 80% of this care is provided at home in the communities we serve, with respite, pain management and end-of-life care also provided at our inpatient unit in Hove.

To meet the challenges of COVID, the organisation has transformed in many areas and at pace, and these changes can be sustained by the skilled teams we have. There is now more to be done to enable us to break down barriers and reach out further into our city so that everyone can benefit from our expert care.

While we are looking for a Chief Executive with many skills, we first need a compassionate leader who embodies dignity in hospice care. You’ll be ready to guide the organisation through a decant while we build a new hospice site fit for the future and the communities we serve. You’ll be excited by this challenge and have the ambition to bring this to life, supporting and engaging teams to unblock barriers and find solutions.

Martlets is a charity that cares for people living through a terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove. We’re much more than a hospice and we’re working to change perceptions of hospice care. Today, most of our patients receive care in their own home. Our hospice in Hove is a place where patients and their families can use our therapeutic services, drop-in clinics, visit our in-patient unit or just sit and have a coffee in our café. Our community teams care for people living and dying at home.  Families and loved ones are supported into bereavement. We run a 24/7 helpline for free, personal support, this a collaboration between Martlets and the Sussex Community Trust’s palliative care team.  Our care is only free thanks to the generosity of local people; every donation will help us change lives.
