Production Editor

Remote working

Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 + Benefits

The Biochemical Society/Portland Press are seeking an experienced, pro-active, and self-motivated Production Editor to join a small and friendly team for a period of 7 months parental cover.

Reporting to the Publishing Operations Manager, the role will oversee the full journal production process from acceptance to online/print publication for a list of defined journal titles to ensure timely publication to budget and agreed quality standards, delivering first-class service to our authors and partners during their publication journey.

This is a pivotal role working in a fast-paced department; as such, you will have exceptional time management, organisation, and communication skills, with a proven ability to prioritise your own workload and to meet tight deadlines. You should be able to pick up new processes and systems quickly.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (preferably in a scientific subject) and will have strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills, including an aptitude for XML, HTML, and digital file management.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail to monitor and manage the quality of our digital and print publishing outputs. A knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is desirable but not essential.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Closing date: 1st November 2021
