Company

Who are The Book Trade Charity?

The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) provides subsidised accommodation to people who have worked in the UK book industry (e.g. publishing, bookselling and allied trades). With a history of supporting retired people (though not sheltered accommodation) our housing now caters for people of all ages and, following recent redevelopment of Bookbinders Cottages in Whetstone, the site now boasts 17 new flats which has enabled the Charity to launch a new initiative to provide affordable housing for young entrants to the trade who would otherwise be unable to take up job opportunities in in the capital. In addition, we support Penguin Random House’s work experience programme and welcome guests on a rolling basis throughout the year.
