Policy and Public Affairs Officer

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. And you could be a part of the team making it happen.

As Policy and Public Affairs Officer (UK and England) you’ll be a crucial part of the team taking the voice of children and young people with cancer and their families to policy makers, elected representatives, and other decision makers.

Your work will focus on the UK Government and England but will have strong links with your counterpart in the devolved nations to make our influencing activities work together

You’ll be involved in our policy, public affairs work and campaigning at all stages - from design to delivery of public facing campaigns and including activities such as engaging Members of Parliament and managing relationships, drafting submissions and key communications, delivering engagement activities and events.

Your approach will empower children and young people with cancer and their families to influence and make change on the things that matter to them.

You will be expected to listen to the experiences of children and young people with cancer as a starting point in your work and always think about the voices that are missing in the conversation.

Policy and Public Affairs Officer Requirements:

• Passionate and have experience of working on policy, public affairs and/or campaigning activities
• Great at managing relationships at different levels - from young people, to elected representatives
• Enthusiastic at collaborating with other teams, organisations and those we support
• Organised and great at keeping engaged with what’s going on in the political and charity sector landscape,
• A creative and clear communicator.
• We want you to bring your unique perspective, experiences, passion and creativity to the role. We value new and fresh ideas to help us reach beyond our past successes.
