Opportunities for hybrid home/onsite working

The British Library is home to a world of discovery for researchers, writers, thinkers, artists, creatives and scientists alike. We have over 170 million items in our collection, from Magna Carta and Shakespeare’s first folio, to Beatles’ lyrics and Angela Carter’s archive. Our philanthropic supporters help us open up this world of ideas and inspiration for everyone. Their support enables us to share our collection as widely as possible by developing learning programmes for young people, supporting growing businesses, inspiring diverse communities, broadening our exhibitions and events and improving our physical spaces.

The Library is in the quiet phase of an ambitious multimillion pound fundraising campaign. Working as part of a dedicated and ambitious development team, the Individual Giving Manager will make a significant contribution to team targets, with a particular remit to expand the Library’s individual giving prospect pipeline, building relationships and devising creative strategies to unlock the potential of the Library’s Patrons programme, both nationally and internationally. You’ll also line manage the Individual Giving Officer and work closely together to build the Library’s lower value giving programmes, direct marketing, onsite giving and appeals. Managing your own portfolio, you will also have responsibility for the cultivation and stewardship of donors towards the Library’s legacy giving programme.

You will have significant experience of individual giving, and a proven track record of success in running successful regular giving programmes. You will also have experience of managing your own portfolio of donors, planning successful stewardship and cultivation programmes (including a varied and busy calendar of events) and skills in managing a donor or customer database (the Library uses Raiser’s Edge). You will be able to work on your own initiative, pro-actively identifying fundraising opportunities to meet the team’s stretching annual targets. A collaborative, determined, open and honest approach to align with the Library’s values and purposes will also be vital.

As one of the world’s great libraries, our duty is to preserve the nation’s intellectual memory for the future and make it available to all for research, inspiration and enjoyment. At present we have well over 170 million items, in most known languages, with three million new items added every year. We have manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents. We make our collections and programmes available to all. We operate the world’s largest document delivery service providing millions of items a year to customers all over the world. What matters to us is that we preserve the national memory and enable knowledge to be created both now and in the future by anyone, anywhere.

In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits.  Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes a minimum of 20.6% (this may be higher dependant on grade. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
