The Bereavement Support Co-ordinator will act as a keyworker for a caseload of families referred post-bereavement, and will contribute where required to the support offered to families residing at The Ark for post-death care, including memory work.

The candidate will be a registered and accredited counsellor, able to offer one-to-one counselling for bereaved adults assessed as needing additional emotional support.

The post holder will co-ordinate the programme of events, groups and activities for bereaved families. In addition they will develop a new bereavement support volunteer role (in conjunction with the Volunteer Development Manager) and act as ‘Team Lead’ managing a small team of volunteers, used to support events and activities. 



Will hold a Diploma in Counselling and have accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or UKCP

Be an experienced counsellor working with adults, as well as experience of supporting families through loss and bereavement and working within a multidisciplinary health/social care context.

Knowledge of attachment and loss theory,  current bereavement thinking and research, and an understanding of palliative care and the needs of families who have a child with complex needs.

Excellent written and  communication skills, with good organisation and planning,  the ability to use own initiative, as well as with working as a team. 

Knowledge and understanding of Adults and Children Safeguarding.
