We provide advice and support across a wide range of issues, including helping asylum seekers through the complexities of the asylum system, addressing issues of destitution and assisting refugees and asylum seekers to access key services including housing, welfare benefits, health, education and employment.

Purpose of the job

Due to the growth of the Refugee Council, there has been growth in the size, number and complexity of our funding streams. Following a recent restructure, the role of Senior Finance Business Partner was introduced to provide strategic leadership on setting and successful delivery of funding strategies to sustainably fund core service and advocacy activity.

The postholder will also be required to manage a team that provides budgeting support for external bids, support budget holders in monitoring and managing funding to achieve maximum impact for clients.

Main duties and responsibilities include –

  • To develop and manage key relationships with staff at all levels within allocated areas of the organisation
  • Ensure finance needs are allocated appropriately across the team
  • Manage, develop and support the business partnering team
  • Support budget holders to understand and monitor the main implications of the funding as it applies to their budget management responsibilities
  • Working within the finance team to develop the use of systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes

To be considered for this role you should be at least a part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW or equivalent), be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of general accounting and key financial principles and knowledge of issues and context within a charity specific project accounting. You should have experience of working with external stakeholders, including funders and partner delivery organisations, as well as experience of developing cross departmental relations to achieve overall organisational objectives and strategies.

Health & Safety

The post holder is responsible for:

Cooperating with the Refugee Council in delivering all legal responsibilities in respect of your own and your colleagues, volunteers, clients and others health and safety whilst at work.

Becoming familiar with the Refugee Council’s Health & Safety Policy and procedures including evacuation procedures at your workplace.

Flexibility

In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post-holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties will, however, fall within the scope of the job, at the appropriate grade. The job description will be subject to periodic review with the post-holder to ensure it accurately reflects the duties of the job.
