The Daisy Garland Charity:

Instrumental in bringing the ketogenic diet to the forefront as a treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy in the UK, The Daisy Garland is an award-winning national charity.  Through our work in collaboration with 15 NHS Trusts from Devon to Scotland we provide unmatched support for children and young adults with difficult to control epilepsy and their families.  

Since our launch in 2004, The Daisy Garland has gained an unparalleled reputation for its sustained support and care. 

The success of the charity has led to expansion and the need for a Development Director to join our committed team based in Totnes, Devon.

The role:

The Development Director will provide leadership and support in delivering the charity’s objectives whilst maintaining the individuality and personal touch which is the cornerstone of the charity, focussing on ensuring that future development is inclusive and respectful of the standards The Daisy Garland holds dear.

This exciting new role comes at a critical time for The Daisy Garland and offers considerable scope to the right candidate to expand our network of stakeholders and further raise our profile, ensuring clear growth and sustainability plans are in place to take the charity forward.  

The Development Director will also be responsible for delivering monitored statistics demonstrating the impact of our services within the field of epilepsy.

This position reports to the CEO.  

Areas of responsibility:

The position offers a varied workload covering the following areas:   

  • Raising ketogenic awareness and positive outcomes through increased collaboration with NHS Trusts 
  • In collaboration with all relevant parties to identify and deliver new initiatives and areas of support for those with difficult to control epilepsy  
  • Formulating and implementing campaigning and lobbying strategies for improved support for those with difficult to control epilepsy   
  • Identifying and attending events to maximise collaboration and networking opportunities
  • Strengthening current corporate partnerships
  • Developing new strategic partnerships using professional/personal networks
  • Forging collaborations with relevant charities and umbrella organisations  
  • Ensuring the inclusivity of the charity’s support and activities  
  • Supporting the growth and sustainability of The Daisy Garland by developing and implementing a full fundraising programme securing solid income streams from a wide variety of sources
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, aims and values of the charity and willingness to work in collaboration with colleagues, Trustees and partners to achieve its goals
  • The confidence to represent the charity in public forums by being a passionate and empathetic advocate for the charity and its mission  
  • Responsible for maintaining positive relationships with donors and driving forward new opportunities 
  • Providing financial analysis and reporting on income verses expenditure 
  • Working with the Chair of Trustees to provide advice and information on relevant matters to enable the charity to fulfil its governance responsibilities  

What we are looking for:

This role requires a highly motivated individual with significant experience of fundraising in the charity sector, excellent business development and organisational skills, as well as a passion for working with people.

To be considered for this position you should have:

  • Experience of creating and developing strong and effective relationships with external stakeholders relevant to the areas The Daisy Garland works in achieving the right outcomes for the organisation
  • A track record of successful fundraising through partnerships with trusts and foundations, institutional donors and philanthropists 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to motivate, inspire and support colleagues and proven ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of partners, funders and users of the service  
  • Positive attitude, flexible, with a hands-on approach 
  • The ability to problem-solve and think laterally
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar leadership role with a proven track record of achievement 
  • A good understanding of the voluntary, social and public sector and the environment within which charities work
  • A sound financial understanding and demonstrable experience of managing budgets, business planning and delivering operational improvements
  • The willingness and to travel to The Daisy Garland events and meetings when required


  • Salary band: £45,000 - £53,000 pa (depending on experience)

  • Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours)

  • Pension Scheme

  • 33 days holiday per year (including BHs)

  • Based: working with a highly dedicated team at our riverside offices in Totnes
