The British Library is home to a world of discovery for researchers, writers, thinkers, artists, creatives and scientists alike. We have over 170 million items in our collection, from Magna Carta and Shakespeare’s first folio, to Beatles’ lyrics and Angela Carter’s archive. Our philanthropic supporters help us open up this world of ideas and inspiration for everyone. Their support enables us to share our collection as widely as possible by developing learning programmes for young people, supporting growing businesses, inspiring diverse communities, broadening our exhibitions and events and improving our physical spaces.

The Library is in the quiet phase of an ambitious multimillion pound fundraising campaign. The Acting Head of Major Donors and Individual Giving is a key senior role in the Library’s development team, leading a team of 4  to drive forward major gifts and individual supporter activity internationally and nationally to secure significant donations towards the campaign. You will be a highly-experienced and results-oriented individual with strong leadership and line management skills. A confident relationship builder, with a proven track record of securing major gifts (6 and 7 figures) you will be responsible for driving the strategy for the individual giving team as well as of managing effective and creative stewardship and cultivation plans for a portfolio of high net worth individuals, tailored to meet their individual needs. You will have well established contacts and networks and be able to build new relationships with high-net worth individuals. You will also be able to prepare and articulate compelling cases for support for the Library’s key projects and campaign vision and thrive in a creative and fast paced environment. A collaborative, determined, open and honest approach to align with the Library’s values and purposes will also be vital.

In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits.  Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes a minimum 26.6%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
