About Film & TV Charity

The Film and TV Charity offers financial support, professional advice and mental health support to people working in the UK film, TV and cinema industries

Major donors to the Charity are typically large studios, broadcasters, or content platforms, including Netflix, BBC Studios, Amazon, Warner Bros and Disney.

The Charity has partnerships with other UK film and TV charities such as Bafta and BFI.

Role Overview

As Research and Insight Manager you will be responsible for generating and collating research and insights and from multiple sources to develop a rich sectorial understanding of issues affecting the film and TV industry workforce to support the development evidence-led solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Research

  • Stay abreast of key research, policy and activity around the film and TV workforce and particularly issues of inclusion and discrimination.
  • Understand trends and industry perspectives on key issues.
  • Support delivery of our biennial industry survey.
  • Identify data and knowledge gaps and drive new initiatives in research to address them.

Inform

  • Synthesise multiple data sources to provide insights into the size, shape and wellbeing of the film and TV workforce.
  • Share insights with the Support Service team to inform and develop services.
  • Identify and develop insight-led solutions.

Engage

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with partners with shared research interests, including other industry bodies and academia.
  • Proactively drive the workforce wellbeing agenda across the industry, seeking opportunities to share insights, debate issues, build partnerships and galvanise action.
  • Deliver high quality, persuasive and concise reports and recommendations for industry audiences.
  • Be prepared to travel to meetings across the UK and be away from home overnight occasionally, as the job reasonably demands.

Skills & Capabilities Required:

To join our team, you will be a people person who is highly motivated and self-starter who is passionate about making a difference. You will be a committed team member but also confident working independently and using your initiative.

  • Deep understanding of, and well networked in the film and/or TV industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, taking a structured, hypothesis-driven approach.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, comfortable working with quantitative data and detailed numerical analysis.
  • Strong track record of producing engaging, insightful, and contextualised research reports, including actionable recommendations.
  • Being able to provide insight and report to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, and present complex ideas in a simple manner.
  • Ability to put people at ease, facilitating strong engagement in research activities.
