B:Music (the arts charity that runs Symphony Hall and Town Hall in the heart of Birmingham)  are seeking an Event Accountant to produce and report event settlements for all our rental and co-promoted shows and prepare artist and promoter payments. Each year, we programme nearly 800 concerts and events and bring the best jazz, folk, world, roots, classical, rock and pop performers to audiences of over half a million. As an Event Accountant, you will liaise with artists, promoters, programmers and other departments to achieve the highest level of service to artists and promotors.

The successful candidate will work on all aspects of the event accounting for the charity and trading company, from cradle to grave, including settlements for all the major Promotors who work with us as well as our resident orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. This varied role encompasses aspects of management accounting and financial accounting, including accounting for Performing Rights Society licence fees, secondary spend trading (Food & Beverage) and Foreign Entertainers Tax reporting.

They will also assist the Management Accountant in production of monthly management accounts ensuring timely event reporting for the charity and use of restricted funds for our Jazz and Learning and Participation events.As to be expected, the role includes monthly reconciliations, investigation and resolution of discrepancies and posting of accounting entries onto a Finance System (PS Financials).

The ideal candidate will have excellent spreadsheet skills, who is able to work accurately to meet deadlines whilst maintaining flexibility and calm in pressurised situations and must have the desire to work within a fast-paced environment and ideally have a passion for music. Accounting experience is essential, ideally in the events industry. Achievement of or working towards an accounting qualification is desirable.
