Job Details

Shakespeare’s Globe is currently seeking a Financial Business Support Accountant to join our Finance team.

The job:

Working as part of a small team and supporting the Finance Manager (Business Support and Reporting), the Financial Business Support Accountants work to cover a number of departments, providing financial information, developing reports, investigating variances and preparing budgets, and ensuring timely production of management accounts.

This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis and can be worked wholly remotely at the moment (with on-site working available); in the coming months we expect to introduce some on-site days but remain supportive of remote working. We’re happy to discuss flexible working in all its forms so please let us know how you work best.

The skills:

The successful candidate will either have or be working towards a Finance or Accounting qualification and will have a good working knowledge of accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel. With an organised and methodical approach to work tasks, the right person is able to target and classify information and arrange appropriately in a timely way. Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to be a supportive team member are essential skills for this fast-paced role. As an organisation, the Globe is committed to the principles of equality, diversity and anti-racism and implementing them throughout our work, so we ask all colleagues to have a personal commitment to this too.

The team:

The Finance Department plays a crucial role in the success of Shakespeare’s Globe. This team provides a quality financial reporting service that:

  • Meets the evolving commercial needs of the organisation;
  • Allows the organisation to comply with relevant reporting requirements of the regulatory bodies and fiscal authorities;
  • Brings effective financial control and proactive business support to the organisation and to individual departmental budget holders; and
  • Provides project management support to the Finance Director in the development of  high performance financial reporting and business information systems.

Shakespeare’s Globe:

We celebrate Shakespeare’s transformative impact on the world by conducting a radical theatrical experiment. Inspired and informed by the unique historic playing conditions of two beautiful iconic theatres, our diverse programme of work harnesses the power of performance, cultivates intellectual curiosity and excites learning to make Shakespeare accessible for all.  Find out more at shakespearesglobe.com

For any queries, please contact recruitment@shakespearesglobe.com. We regret that because of the high volume of anticipated applications, we may be unable to contact unsuccessful candidates.

People of the Global Majority and Deaf and disabled people are under-represented at the Globe. We encourage applications from these under-represented groups and we are also open to discussions about flexible working.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to monitoring the effectiveness of our policies and procedures, to help us meet our commitment to be an anti-racist, pro-equality organisation. We would appreciate all candidates responding to our diversity data monitoring survey alongside applications as this helps us make informed decisions about any changes we need to consider making to our recruitment policies, procedures and candidate experience.

Company

Shakespeare’s Globe is a collection of buildings centred on a reconstruction of the open air, Elizabethan playhouse, The Globe Theatre, and also containing smaller theatres and a permanent exhibition about Shakespeare’s life and work. Owned and run by educational charity, the Shakespeare Globe Trust, Shakespeare’s Globe opened in 1997 and is located in the London borough of Southwark.

Founded by the American actor and director, Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare’s Globe is a faithful reconstruction of the original open air playhouse designed in 1599 for which Shakespeare wrote. The Shakespeare Globe Trust was created in 1970 by Wanamaker and was dedicated to building a reconstruction of the Shakespearian Globe Theatre, close to its original Bankside, Southwark location. Work began in 1992 and the new Globe was opened by the Queen in June 1997.

The Globe stands a few hundred yards from its original site. Other than concessions to comply with modern day fire regulations such as additional exits, the Globe is as accurate a reconstruction of the 1599 Globe as was possible with the available evidence. The only covered parts of the theatre are the stage and seating areas. It has space for only 1,400 spectators, compared to the original theatre’s 3,000.

The Globe stages a season of plays every year from April to October. In the winter, the theatre is used for educational purposes and tours are available all year round. Some productions are filmed and released in cinemas and on DVD. New work is also commissioned and performed. The first artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe was the actor, director and playwright Mark Rylance.

Shakespeare’s Globe also comprises two smaller theatres - indoor, candlelit theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and educational and rehearsal studio complex, the Sackler Studios.

The mission of the Shakespeare Globe Trust is not just to stage Shakespeare’s plays. The Globe Exhibition and Globe Education also seek to further the experience and international understanding of Shakespeare.

Based under the Globe Theatre, the Exhibition explores the life of Shakespeare, the London of his day and the theatre for which he wrote. Guided tours of the Globe Theatre are also available. Globe Education works with over 100,000 people a year through workshops, seminars and classes.

Jobs, work placements, internships and volunteering opportunities are available at Shakespeare’s Globe. Though, because of the large number of applications it receives, the Globe does not reply to unsolicited CVs.
