About the Employer
The Development and Alumni Relations office has an outstanding track record of engaging Cambridge's global alumni community and securing philanthropic income for the Collegiate University and is on the verge of completing a £2 billion campaign. It has overall responsibility for coordinating University-wide development campaigns, raising funds to support Schools, Faculties, Departments and other central University institutions. About the role
As a member of the Settlement Team, you will be responsible for drafting documentation for donors or their representatives and ensuring the necessary processes for accepting donations have been undertaken. This is a great role for someone looking to enter the Fundraising/Charity sector at an intermediate level. Settlement at Cambridge is a unique process, which involves negotiating terms, drafting appropriate legal documentation (in consultation with the University's legal team or external legal counsel when necessary), and ensuring compliance with University procedures in order that donors' funding can be deployed according to their wishes and used for transformative projects across the collegiate University.
The Team is responsible for leading the settlement of all major (£100k+) and principal (£10m+) gifts to the University and was instrumental in securing the first £100m gift to a UK University from a British philanthropist. It handles the documentation of over 120 major and principal gifts each year - a figure that is set to increase along with the expansion of the fundraising team.
This role is based in central Cambridge, however the successful candidate may need to work remotely in the first instance and flexible working arrangements will be considered. This can be discussed at interview.
The ideal candidate will have experience drafting legal documentation and confirming compliance with policies and procedures, confidence in communicating with a variety of people, including at the highest levels of seniority, and an interest in being a part of a team that enables a wide range of exciting projects that help make the University the unique place it is. They are also interested in candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills from the policy, compliance, or contracts administration sectors, as well as those with legal/paralegal qualifications and law graduates. Finally, candidates will want to be part of a warm, collaborative team that loves working with other people and problem-solving in order to reach a common goal.
