Engagement Officer Chinese Community

We have an opportunity for a Bible Engagement Officer to engage Chinese diaspora audiences with the transforming message of the Bible. As part of this, we are seeking someone to develop relationships with key churches and church leaders in Britain's Chinese community to help fulfil the charity’s wider strategy of Bible mission.

Position: Bible Engagement Officer (Chinese Community)

Location: Home based

Hours: Full-time

Salary: £29,000 to £34,000 plus benefits package

The Role

The charity is on a mission to see Christians confident in the Scriptures, a changed conversation about the Bible in culture and the transformative embodiment of the Bible in the world. The role plays a vital part in achieving this among the Chinese community here in Britain.

The Bible Engagement Officer will develop relationships and partnerships with key churches, leaders, communities and networks among the Chinese diaspora in Britain, as part of Bible Society’s wider strategy of Bible mission in mainland China and the global diaspora. The role will contribute to the implementation of the diaspora strategy by supporting strategic projects, promoting resources, managing national events and expanding networks for further collaboration. This is a pioneering role with great potential to grow within an ambitious global strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Develop warm and fruitful relationships with key stakeholders among the Chinese communities
  • Work closely and attend on a regular basis Church Relations team meetings and provide networking opportunities
  • Visit church leaders, attend church services across England and Wales
  • Inspire financial, prayer and volunteer support of Bible Society’s mission
  • Follow up and document the ongoing conversations and project executions
  • Contribute to the ongoing domestic mission by sharing and exploring new opportunities and insights
  • Support and assist ongoing research work, supporting interviews and data collection among the Chinese communities
  • Co-ordinate the logistics of various conferences and public events or webinars organised by Bible Society
  • Support hospitality and translation for visitors from mainland China at various events and occasions

 

About You

The role requires someone who's theologically literate, with a comprehensive knowledge of Chinese culture and Chinese church life, and fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. You will be a people person able to develop warm and fruitful relationships among Chinese communities.

You will have experience of establishing networks of contacts and relationships in Chinese churches and knowledge of Chinese culture and Chinese church dynamics and be theologically literate and fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
