The Role

To assess the needs of children & families affected by parental mental illness (COPMI) and provide direct, individual and whole family support intervention though home based visits, group work (Kidstime intervention). Taking a systemic and holistic approach to working with children and their families engaging with both parents and children to understand the adverse experiences and trauma that are present in their lives and how these affect their circumstances. To support families to implement strategies to move forward, increase resilience and mitigate the negative effects of parental mental illness, particularly in relation to parenting and child development.

Your Impact

We are looking for a committed, experienced mental health practitioner to assess and support children affected by parental mental illness (COPMI). You will provide direct, individual and whole family support intervention, taking a systemic and holistic approach to working with families to understand their adverse experiences and trauma and support them to implement strategies to move forward, increase resilience, and mitigate the negative effects of parental mental illness.

Your Skills

You will have a recognised professional qualification in Family Therapy, psychotherapy or counselling at a minimum of Dip /PGDip level or above, excellent assessment skills and an ability to identify children and young people who may be at risk. You will have an excellent understanding of parental mental health and the impact on parenting, as well as understanding of the needs of young carers, and be able to implement and monitor targeted support plans. You will need to be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate creatively and effectively with children and young people ranging from 5 to 18 years of age.
