The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM) is a charity and membership body for doctors who work on all aspects of medicines research and development. The small, but vibrant and professional, staff work closely with the Board of Trustees and our 1,500 members to deliver on our mission and our strategic objectives, to improve the health of patients around the world.

FPM has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and our reputation and influence continues to grow. The Policy and Communications Assistant is a vital and strategic new role that is pivotal to supporting this growth. Reporting directly to the Head of Policy and Communications, the role will support the wide-ranging activities in the policy and communications department. Areas of current and future focus include: the future of clinical trials, women’s health, environmental sustainability in pharmaceutical medicine and antimicrobials. The role is offered on a one-year contract initially, with the possibility of extension.

The role will have a blend of administrative responsibilities and creative activities, including:

  • Coordinating the work of the FPM’s policy expert groups, covering areas such as rare diseases, oncology and paediatrics.
  • Supporting the organisation of policy and PR events.
  • Administration of committees and expert groups.
  • Drafting press releases, web copy and member communications.
  • Supporting the development of FPM’s digital activities – including social media posting and design, and audio and visual production.
  • Supporting the press and media work of FPM, managing and logging contacts with journalists and press activity and impact.

This exciting new post provides a great for someone who is interested in developing their skills and has some ideas to contribute. A background in the life sciences would be beneficial, but is not essential. We are looking for a bright, dynamic self-starter who is organised and can communicate well. The postholder will be well supported and will work closely with the Marketing and Digital Communications Manager, and there will be ample opportunities to learn media and digital skills and discover more about the policy landscape in this exciting and innovative field of medicine.
