I am delighted to be working with an amazing animal charity to recruit a Head of Outreach Projects for a 6-month FTC. You will be responsible for developing and setting the strategic direction of the Outreach Department, in agreement with the Veterinary Director, whilst overseeing the delivery of all departmental services and interventions. You will fulfil all senior management responsibilities and areas of accountability as needed across the organisation.
About the Department and role:
The charity is the largest of its kind in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. The centres care for around 15,000 animals each year.
This is a full-time permanent post at 35 hours per week, Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm, with occasional UK wide travel and overnight stays.

Main duties:
To fulfil all responsibilities for, and areas of accountability in the role, including creating
and managing the departmental budget (currently 1.7m), identifying and managing risk,
overseeing the wider team and ensuring all departmental and organisational policies and
requirements are met.
Responsible for the delivery of strategic programmes and services that contribute to the
fulfilment of the charity's overall organisational strategy. Ensuring Outreach programmes
are aligned with key related policy developments, issues and opportunities around
housing, domestic abuse, the human/animal bond and the links between human and pet
abuse.
To provide senior management support to the organisation as required and to act as an
advisor and spokesperson on all pets and housing related matters.
To build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across Dogs Trust that are key
to the delivery of the work of the department and organisation.
To develop and maintain positive and beneficial relationships with senior external service
partners, industry professionals and policy makers. Networking at the highest levels with
philanthropic contacts, via the Philanthropy dept., to attract funding to the charity.
Ensure effective service data collection and reporting solutions for Outreach are in place
through working with internal teams, such as IT, as well as external agencies, to develop
appropriate systems and solutions.
Identify departmental research needs across all projects, and work with relevant internal
teams and external contacts to commission research which supports the development of
Outreach services and highlights the human/animal bond.
Lead on the Links Pets Fostering Group development work, ensuring that its activity
contributes to the Links Group's overall charitable objectives.

Responsible for a departmental budget of 1.7 million, associated finances and financial controls.
Responsibility for departmental capital expenditure. Receiving and authorising invoices that require
senior authorisation. Responsible for the management of third-party contracts that are required to fulfil our services.
Management of people
Outreach Projects Manager
Oversee the recruitment, management and retention of approx. 700-800 volunteer foster carers.
Health and Safety: All individual employees have a duty of care of their own health and safety and
that of others who may be affected by your actions.
Responsible for the health and safety of staff, volunteers and work areas within their remit. Additional
responsibility, due to the nature of the work and vulnerability of clients, to ensure that risks are managed
appropriately, and that safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.
Data Protection: All staff are responsible for ensuring they understand and apply the rules and
policy for data management.
Responsible for the appropriate processing and storage of data within their remit and for the
confidentiality of information stored. Responsible for the appropriate fulfilment of data processing
contracts by third parties in relation to activities such as fundraising.

Major internal and external relationships:
Internal: Outreach Projects Manager, Pets and Housing Manager, Regional Freedom Project Managers, wider Outreach Team, and SMT within all other departments.
External: Animal welfare charities, human welfare charities and organisations, senior professionals and consultants within the social housing and private rented sectors, external senior research and agency contacts, general contractors and suppliers.
