At the Marine Conservation Society, we’re at the heart of the movement to save our seas as the UK's leading marine charity. From getting people to the beach to take part in litter picks, to campaigning for better protections for our seas and encouraging people to make sustainable seafood choices, we’re advocates for our ocean and the communities and animals which rely upon it.

To enable us to succeed in our aim for seas full of life, we need to nurture and grow income from existing and new partnerships. If you’re a talented trusts and grants fundraiser with a proven ability to create convincing and persuasive bids and you’re eager to apply your skills to marine conservation, then we’d love to hear from you.

This is a fitting role for someone with foundational fundraising skills, ideally gained in a not-for-profit setting. Working within our Trusts & Grants team, you will expertly nurture important relationships with charitable trusts, foundations and grant funders and co-ordinate our core small trust and foundation fundraising programme. In addition, you will develop high-quality and compelling applications to larger trusts and grant funders, packaging our marine conservation work across the UK as appropriate. You will also identify new trust and grant opportunities to support our growing pipeline, and input ideas to the trusts and grants fundraising strategy. As a self-starter, you’ll be confident in your ability to take a proactive approach when managing a varied and busy workload.

Key Skills

- Experience in successfully fundraising from charitable trusts, foundations or similar in the charity sector (experience of developing and submitting Big Lottery/National Heritage Lottery Fund bids would be an advantage).
- Excellent written communication and grammar skills, with the ability to produce concise and persuasive applications.
- Proven ability to understand the giving mechanics of charitable trusts and foundations.
- Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of success with donors and experience of developing budgets for grant-funded projects.
- Ability and confidence to represent MCS with prospects and donors, including through face-to-face presentation.

Supporting your application

Download the information pack and include a cover letter with your CV which tells us why you would like to work with us, and how you meet the role and person specification. We value this element of the application, so make sure you include it.

We aim for an anonymous shortlisting process, so it would be helpful if you leave out any personal information, links or images from the documents you upload.

We understand that interviews can be difficult for some people who have a condition or disability that they live with. We want to make it as easy as possible for every candidate to shine during their application process, so please let us know what we can do to accommodate you.

Notes

Everyone can expect to be treated with consideration and respect and MCS is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all.  Good working relationships release the full potential, creativity and productivity of each individual, in an atmosphere where everyone can learn and work without prejudice, discrimination, harassment or violence.

We are committed to developing a team which is reflective of our society, and which can offer insight and views that influence our work.  We are particularly interested in applications from groups which are under-represented in marine, environmental and charity sectors.

Eligibility to work in the UK is required.
