I CAN is the leading children’s communication charity in the United Kingdom.  We were originally formed in 1888.  Our vision is a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential.  Our values are to be Impactful, Collaborative, Aspirational and we ensure No Voice is Unheard.

Each year, we directly support over 84,000 children and young people through a combination of programmes, digital and telephone resources and in our two residential special schools.  And our public affairs team continues to make the case to Government to make more of this support available so that every child can progress.  Our work is underpinned by a strong evidence base and we are committed to adding to this evidence so that our work gets better year on year.

Our new Director of Fundraising will help more children and young people get help with communication by increasing our voluntary and statutory funding, ensuring that income generated contributes to financial stability and influencing I CAN’s wider strategy to increase reach and impact.  An effective member of the Senior Management Team, you will provide sound leadership and advice as we look to deliver on our ambitions for the coming years, and input into wider organisational debates to make sure we consider donors and funders in our strategic decision-making.

We are looking for an inspiring leader, who has experience of developing an innovative fundraising strategy that incorporates a variety of income streams and of growing and diversifying income.  With a strong personal track record of successful donor engagement, ideally with experience of having secured six or seven figure gifts, you will know what it takes to develop a highly successful and sustainable fundraising directorate.  It may be that you are currently operating at director level currently, or it could equally be that you are looking to step into your first executive role and can demonstrate the leadership abilities to do so.  Whatever your background, you will share our vision and values and be committed to helping us to continue to grow our reach and impact.

If you want to make a difference to children who struggle with speech and language, get in touch with us.  We want people who are aspirational, focused on impact and who care deeply about outcomes for this very neglected group of children.  In return, we can offer to you a rewarding workplace with opportunities to learn and grow and a naturally collaborative working culture.
