Sightsavers are looking to recruit an experienced Banking and Treasury Analyst to join their international Treasury team.

Salary:           c£28,728 depending upon experience

Contract:      Permanent (UK only)

Location:      Remote with occasional presence in our offices in Haywards Heath, West Sussex

The Banking and Treasury Analyst position will play an active role in organisational strategy through the provision of expert Treasury Administration. It will involve global bank account management, global bank portal management and bank mandate management. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of monthly changes to the Sightsavers investment portfolio to ensure that management, accounting and reporting requirements are met.

About the role

Key duties will include:

  • global bank account management to include opening, closing and amending accounts
  • global bank portal management
  • bank mandate management using the Kyriba TMS Bank Management Module
  • updating and recording all electronic portal bank accounts, users, roles and responsibilities
  • regular reviews of all bank account management information
  • assisting the Head of Treasury in maintaining Banking partner relationships and reviewing for best practices and improvements
  • Responsible for the management of monthly changes to the Sightsavers investment portfolio to ensure accurate and timely recording of purchases, disposals, realised and unrealised gain and losses to produce SUN accounting journals
  • analysing the investment portfolio and producing treasury management reports for monthly Management Account Reporting and quarterly Investment Committee meetings.
  • assisting the Head of Treasury in ad hoc Treasury analysis
  • filing and audit preparation in respect of all of the above.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Part qualified accountant or equivalent experience, possibly working towards a treasury management qualification.
  • Substantial work experience in finance and banking
  • Experience of working in a Treasury environment.
  • INGO experience (ideal)
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Experience with banks in Africa would be of particular interest as would be familiarity with the specific documentation and usage of Global multi bank electronic portals

To succeed in the role, you will also possess:

  • a high level of administrative skills especially in banking systems and associated accounting
  • advanced Excel
  • demonstrable reconciliation capability
  • strong organisational skills with an appreciation of meeting deadlines
  • a willingness to develop in depth finance systems skills and knowledge
  • a logical approach to problem solving and process re-design
  • strong attention to detail to ensure integrity of data provided to banks and external providers.
  • ability to support other members of staff through issue resolution, training and support
  • engagement and negotiation skills to resolve issues and agree processes that work for the benefit of the Sightsavers Country Office teams.
  • ability to engage with Sightsavers senior stakeholders in the absence of the Head of Treasury

Role location:

There is flexibility around the location of this role, but we will require the successful candidate to occasionally (perhaps fortnightly) attend meetings and collaborate at our offices in Haywards Heath.

Sightsavers is an international charity that works in more than 30 countries around the world to eliminate avoidable blindness and support people with visual impairments to live independently. Sightsavers is headquartered in the UK and has over 400 employees. It also has branches in Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, India, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

Sightsavers works with partners in order to provide a comprehensive range of eye care services. In 2013, Sightsavers' projects provided eye health examinations for nearly 14 million people, performed 300,000 eye operations, and treated over 100 million people for neglected tropical diseases.

People are also referred for treatment to prevent blindness or restore sight. Through community volunteers in developing countries, Sightsavers distributes medication to prevent blinding diseases. The charity also trains eye care workers and surgeons and funds operations.

Of the 30 countries Sightsavers works in, 23 are in Africa. These include Mozambique, Mali, Liberia and Kenya. Sightsavers is also present in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Caribbean.

In addition to its medical work, Sightsavers works with partners in order to train specialist teaching staff and supply glasses, Braille kits and other learning tools. The charity aims to educate communities and reduce stigma around visual impairment and blindness. Through its work, people with visual impairments and other disabilities are supported to live independently, get an education and earn an income.

Sightsavers is also a campaigning organisation, working with national governments to tackle the root causes of avoidable blindness, such as lack of access to clean water and sanitation facilities. The charity’s ‘Put us in the Picture campaign calls on the international community to make global development inclusive of the world’s 800m people with disabilities. The campaign’s vision is for all people to have equal access to employment, education, healthcare and participation in society.

Backing up Sightsavers’ work around the world is a strong research capability. Research and policy work revolves around three priorities – health, education and social inclusion. Gathering and disseminating sound research evidence helps to ensure the charity’s programmes meet the needs of the people they are designed to serve. Research evidence is also a strong tool when advocating for policy changes with governments.

Sightsavers has many partners that assist with its aim of eliminating avoidable blindness and may also provide funding. Partners include the UK government’s Department for International Development, the European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
