Web Development Officer

Central London (Please note that while this role is advertised as office based, IIED will remain a remote-working organisation for the foreseeable future).

IIED is a policy and action research organisation promoting sustainable development and linking local priorities to global challenges. We are based in London and work on five continents with some of the world’s most vulnerable people to strengthen their voice in the decision-making arenas that affect them. We are now looking for a Web Development officer  to join our Communications Group on a permanent, part-time basis, working three days per week.

This is an exciting opportunity for a web and communications professional with a background in marketing and events platforms and experience of managing Drupal-based websites to support an organisation that is making a lasting difference to communities across the world.

The Role

As a Web Development Officer, you will support the development and maintenance of the organisation’s varied online platforms. Working within the Communications Group, you will play an integral part of the Web and Marketing Team which works across the organisation to build our client’s digital profile. Assisting the Web Planning and Content Manager and the Web Services Manager, you will ensure that a comprehensive web service is provided, including advice, support, training and guidance on all web-related matters.

Additionally, you will:

- Assist with the development and maintenance of the main site and Publications Library

- Train and support users, and assist with the development of associated documentation

- Assist with planning and providing technical support for our client’s online events and workshops

- Perform user testing, browser testing and ensure cross-browser compatibility

- Assist with the planning and development of a range of multimedia products, such as video and podcasts

- Provide training and support in the use of communication digital tools (for example for online events) and AV equipment

About You

To be considered as a Web Development Officer,  you will need:

- A minimum of two years’ experience maintaining and supporting Drupal 7 or 8 websites

- At least two years’ experience of working with online platforms to support marketing or event work

- An understanding of the web app development lifecycle (e.g. requirements, design, development, testing)

- Excellent knowledge of MS Office 365

- A relevant degree, or relevant qualifications and/or experience

It is also essential to have an excellent working knowledge of the following systems and processes:

- Drupal 7 and/or 8

- Google Analytics

- Responsive web design

- Cross-browser and/or platform compatibility

- Adobe Photoshop,XD and Acrobat

- Google docs and/or spreadsheets

- SEO techniques

Knowledge of any of the following is desirable: Drupal 9, HTML and/or CSS, web security and encryption and W3C accessibility standards.

Experience with any of the following would also be advantageous: Google Data Studio, MailChimp, ClickDimensions, task management software, such as Asana or Trello, Adobe Premiere Pro, and/or Audition. An understanding of component-based design patterns would also be beneficial, as would experience of databases, such as MySQL.
