Senior Communication Officer (Key Stakeholder Engagement)
Vauxhall, Central London

About Us

Established and mainly funded by the UK Government, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) is a charity that promotes and supports Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) in the UK.

Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January) is the day for everyone to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. It is a time when we seek to learn the lessons of the past and recognise that genocide does not just take place on its own - it’s a steady process which can begin if discrimination, racism and hatred are not checked and prevented.

HMD is for everyone. Each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future. We know they learn more, empathise more and do more as a result.

Together we bear witness for those who endured genocide and honour the survivors and all those whose lives were changed beyond recognition.

We are currently looking for a Senior Communication Officer (Key Stakeholder Engagement) to join us on either a full-time or part-time basis at our offices in Vauxhall.

The Benefits

- Salary of £32,357
- 25 days’ holiday (increasing with length of service up to maximum of 30 days) plus Bank Holidays
- Workplace pension after three months with 5% employer contribution
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual with a strong grasp of the workings of the government and parliament to use their skills and experience to raise awareness of, and participation in, Holocaust Memorial Day.

You will create meaningful relationships with a broad range of senior stakeholders and will play an integral part in helping us embed our message and vision: Learning from genocide – for a better future.

In return, you will find an inclusive and supportive work environment where no two days are the same. So, if you would like to be part of our mission, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As the Senior Communications Officer, you will drive engagement with high profile stakeholders, increasing their understanding of, and involvement in, Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) and Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT).

Working with the Head of Communications, you will develop and implement strategic engagement programmes with opinion-formers and high-profile stakeholders. Working at a national level, you will engage with individuals such as parliamentarians and celebrities.

Additionally, your role will involve:

- Ensuring opinion-formers and high-profile stakeholders are aware of HMD and understand its relevance and importance as the day of national significance, e.g. create relevant materials
- Creating meaningful relationships with key UK and devolved administration parliamentarians and their offices
- Identifying and developing relationships with All-Party Groups relevant to HMD
- Monitoring relevant policy developments, tracking the progress of bills and other parliamentary activity
- Ensuring relevant HMDT staff are kept updated and respond to relevant policy developments

About You

To join us as the Senior Communications Officer (Key Stakeholder Engagement), you will need:

- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the workings of the UK government and parliamentary procedures in both Houses
- Strong track-record in public and parliamentary affairs
- Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing
- Ability to create and nurture working relationships at all levels
- Track record of influencing stakeholders at a senior level

Knowledge and an understanding of political and parliamentary procedures in Scotland, Wales and/or Northern Ireland administrations would also be desirable.

This role can either be full-time at 35 hours per week Monday to Friday, working 9am – 5pm with some flexibility (including regular working from home), or part-time/reduced hours for the right candidate. This role will be working from home until Covid-19 restriction lifts, then will be at least two days in the office per week.

The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 7th June 2021, with interviews scheduled for Monday 14th June and Thursday 17th June 2021. Please select the apply button and attach your CV, cover letter and monitoring form.

Please note, we anonymise all recruitment applications, therefore please ensure that your cover letter and CV do not contain your name, gender, ethnicity or religious background. If included, this information will be removed prior to shortlisting.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of this role or the application process, please contact our Head of Communications, Asel Guillot.
