Job Details

About this role

We are looking for a proactive Finance Manager whose can-do attitude is inspired by a love of problem solving. Adaptable and efficient, with experience of delivering the wide range of accounting services required by a small business or charity, the ideal candidate will be detail oriented, a proficient user of SAGE accounting software, and have strong Excel skills. Qualified to AAT Level 4 or equivalent e.g. CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting / ACCA Foundation Level, the Charity would be happy to support a candidate who is currently studying towards a professional accountancy qualification. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Finance and Resources, Farm Office Managers, and budget holders, as well as being the first point of contact for all Finance queries both internally and externally, so candidates who are strong relationship builders, natural collaborators, and confident communicators would thrive in this role. A working knowledge of charity SORP, restricted fund accounting and processing Gift Aid claims would be a distinct advantage. A strong connection to the Charity’s work with children, food, the countryside, and farming is essential.

This role will be based at our Huxham Barns offices outside of Exeter, Devon. Our Huxham Barns staff are currently working remotely with access to the office for essential tasks and facilities only. It is anticipated that all staff at Huxham Barns will return to the office this summer, when it is safe to do so, with flexibility for some home-working.

The successful candidate must have the ability to travel between all four remotely located sites, across Devon, Pembrokeshire and Gloucestershire, with expenses for travel reimbursed by the Charity.  Travel to the farms is expected twice each term for face-to-face meetings, some of which may require overnight stays.

Appointments will not be confirmed until the Charity has received two satisfactory professional references, evidence of the existing proof of right to work in the UK, and a satisfactory DBS check. Referees will not be contacted without candidates’ prior consent.

THIS ROLE IS ONLY OPEN TO APPLICANTS WHO HAVE AN EXISTING RIGHT TO LIVE AND WORK IN THE UK.

Company

Farms for City Children is a vibrant Charity that welcomes groups of children from cities and disadvantaged communities to experience the adventure of working together on our farms in the heart of the British countryside. Whether they stay for a whole week or come for a day visit, this unique experience can be life changing. Visiting children are immersed in the natural world of countryside, food, and farming life where they participate in the seasonal tasks of the day: sowing, growing and harvesting in our kitchen gardens; caring for livestock and looking after the land; and cooking up a home-grown feast in the farmhouse kitchen. Spending time working alongside real farmers fosters children’s independence and helps them to grow in confidence, develops their self-esteem, and encourages them to become more resilient. At our heritage farms - and in partnership with our commercial farming neighbours - children experience the benefits of collaboration, enjoy plenty of physical activity, good food, and fresh air, and discover the magical rural environment that is full of new words, sounds and experiences to inspire their creativity.
