Public Affairs Manager
c. £40k • London
Nearly one in three women aged 16-59 will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime; two women a week in England and Wales are killed by a current or former partner; over half a million women are raped or sexually assaulted each year; there are more than 135,000 women and girls affected by FGM living in England and Wales; and a third of girls report having experienced sexual harassment at school. These (and other) forms of violence and abuse prevent hundreds of thousands of women and girls from living the lives they would choose for themselves. But we believe that a different world is possible.
The End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW) brings together 100+ and growing, specialist women’s support services, researchers, activists, victim-survivors and NGOs working to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) in all its forms. Established in 2005, we campaign for every level of government to adopt better, more joined-up approaches to ending and preventing violence against women and girls, and we challenge the wider cultural attitudes that tolerate and condone this abuse.
Our new Public Affairs Manager will be responsible for keeping us right in the eyeline of the people who can make the most significant difference to women and girls’ lives. As well as being the principal channel by which our messages and members’ perspectives first reach policymakers and partners, you’ll also maximise these relationships to bring sector intelligence and strategic advice in the other direction. Scanning the horizon, identifying opportunities for us to bring influence to bear, and then ensuring that we make a highly effective response at the right time, you’ll bring an impressive blend of strategic and tactical capability.
We’re a small, focused team, so candidates must be absolutely ready to take on all aspects of PA work, including leading on EVAW’s political strategy. Organised, resilient and motivated, you must be confident in public settings and always comprehensively briefed. Strong candidates will already be immersed in the issues, understand the impact of frontline work, and be ready to make the case at the highest levels. Our values include an uncompromising commitment to intersectionality and anti-racism, and we strongly encourage expressions of interest from Black and minoritised people.
