Communications Manager
c. £40k • London

Nearly one in three women aged 16-59 will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime; two women a week in England and Wales are killed by a current or former partner; over half a million women are raped or sexually assaulted each year; there are more than 135,000 women and girls affected by FGM living in England and Wales; and a third of girls report having experienced sexual harassment at school. These (and other) forms of violence and abuse prevent hundreds of thousands of women and girls from living the lives they would choose for themselves. But we believe that a different world is possible.

The End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW) brings together 100+, and growing, specialist women’s support services, researchers, activists, victim-survivors and NGOs working to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) in all its forms. Established in 2005, we campaign for every level of government to adopt better, more joined-up approaches to ending and preventing violence against women and girls, and we challenge the wider cultural attitudes that tolerate and condone this abuse.

Our new Communications Manager will play a central and dynamic part in amplifying EVAW’s voice, and ensuring that it’s impossible to ignore. And while speaking truth to policymakers is a crucial part of the campaigning role, we also know that changing the national conversation about VAWG for good is a significant part of ending men’s violence against women and girls. So you will also create authoritative and compelling stories which can change minds more widely across society. While our existing press and media profile is strong, we want to use this appointment to additionally drive greater effectiveness in our digital presence, developing engaging content that brings a more diverse range of target audiences into our coalition.

We’re a small, focused team where you’ll own the communications remit while working collaboratively with our team of campaigns professionals; so candidates must be absolutely ready to take on the responsibility of planning, delivery and evaluation from end to end. A self-starter who’s able to make sound decisions, you’ll bring excellent judgement, powerful writing and speaking skills, and an outstanding track record of impact. A personal commitment to our work and values (including a sophisticated grasp of intersectionality and anti-racism) goes without saying, and we strongly encourage expressions of interest from Black and minoritised people.
