Immediately Available Assistant Finance Director, Higher Education – Up to £75,000

A well-respected higher education organisation based in Central London are looking for a new contractor to join their finance team until the end of 2021. The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for managing half of the finance team, and will be tasked with onboarding new finance professionals from the faculties into the central function. Suitable candidates will be qualified immediately available accountants with management experience. Other key responsibilities will include beginning the new financial plan, leading on budgeting and forecasting and developing the part qualified members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Onboard, lead and develop a new business partnering team
  • Manage the Management Accounting and FP&A team including the Head of Management Accounts and Faculty / Directorate staff
  • Take the lead on annual budget setting and the re-forecasting process.
  • To manage an effective centralised team amalgamating current activity with no deterioration in service delivery to the Faculties and Directorates.
  • Develop group wide analysis to direct and challenge decision making in key areas, through the use of financial information
  • Providing advice and support to the leadership team (PVC, Directors & FOO), providing financial information and reports to the senior management team and to the University’s Governing Body and its Committees.
  • Overall responsibility for the preparation of the annual budget and medium term financial forecasts for the University and its subsidiaries; to include capex and cash forecasting; planning assumptions; review for accuracy and completeness; sensitivity analysis; supporting narrative and reports.
  • Supporting Faculties and Directorates in the preparation of their annual and medium term financial plans; statement of financial health (SoFH) planning template; Directorate planning template; oversight of business partnering arrangements ensuring added value to Faculties and Directorates; ensuring congruence with institutional planning position.

Key Skills and Qualification:

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA Accountant with a minimum of 3 years PQE
  • Experience in Higher Education is essential
  • Team management experience, preferably a minimum of 5 direct reports
  • Ability to manage key relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience developing a team whilst allowing them to work autonomously
  • Engaging and professional
