Job Details

In order for Wave to achieve the next stage in its development – which is to encourage and enable places of genuine inclusion in other communities across London and beyond - we are looking to appoint a Director who shares our passion.  Key responsibilities:-

  • Plan and execute our strategy for reaching new communities
  • Build partnerships and connections with potential changemakers beyond Muswell Hill
  • Oversee fundraising efforts to support the development of our work

You will likely come from a charitable background and will be looking to take on a fresh challenge, with moral and faith-motivated purpose. You will understand why more genuinely inclusive places and activities are needed in the heart of local communities, as well as the importance of shifting unhelpful perceptions associated with learning disability.

In addition to the agreed salary, we are able to offer you the opportunity to help shape the work of a growing charitable organisation in a role that is supported and encouraged by an established and collaborative leadership team.

Company

Wave for Change

Wave is a registered charity established in 2009 when a group of parents decided they wanted to ‘do something significant’ to improve the inclusion of individuals who feel marginalised in churches and community because of having a learning disability.  Wave is founded on the belief that God values us all equally, irrespective of our abilities – we aim to share this love and acceptance in the work that we do.

Our focus is on making it easy for those with and without learning disabilities to meet, comfortably socialise, work, and if desired worship together.  In doing so, we overcome the fear and ignorance that is often at the root cause of exclusion and social segregation.

Wave has initiated a number of mixed abilities groups and places that have started to transform the community of Muswell Hill.  Individuals with and without learning disabilities are interacting more confidently with each other, and starting to better appreciate each other’s differences.

Our founders received the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Langton Award for Community Service in 2020.  This award gives recognition to the commitment of our dedicated and caring voluntary team.
