Grants Manager
London, NW1 (with flexibility)

About Helen Bamber Foundation

We are a Human Rights charity that is dedicated to supporting those who have experienced some of the worst trauma, abuse and human right violations.

Comprising teams of medical, legal and therapy professionals, we support survivors through therapeutic care, medical consultation, legal protection and practical support and have built an excellent international reputation for doing so.

Users of our services come from over 90 countries and often face ongoing problems relating to poverty, destitution or unsafe housing in addition to their physical and mental trauma and complex, confusing legal procedures. We work on a ‘here and now’ basis to treat each person with dignity and help them with access to health care, legal advice and human rights.

To support our work, we are now seeking a Grants Manager to join us on a full time, permanent basis and support the funding for our mission.

The Benefits

  • Salary of up to £34,000
  • Support survivors of human rights violations

If you are a communicative, proactive grants fundraising professional with deep experience of delivering charitable trusts and foundations income, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your career whilst supporting our pioneering charity.

The work we do helps individuals from across the world to deal with and recover from horrendous experiences and trauma. With your support and expertise, we can help even more people and continue to make a difference and turn lives around.

So, if you are eager to continue on your career path and help to give survivors the strength to move on, this is the role you’ve been looking for.

The Role

As our Grants Manager, you will take responsibility for fundraising activity from charitable trusts and foundations accounting for circa 50% of our total annual income.

Specifically, you will manage the overall growth and success of the grants programme which includes prospect research, proposal development and relationships management. Additionally, you will report on all grants and the management of data that is required to measure and evaluate impact.

This role represents an exciting chance to provide creative responses to our charity’s financial needs and offers the opportunity to progress within the charity sector and deliver outstanding results for an exceptionally worthwhile cause.

About You

To be considered as our Grants Officer, you will need:

  • At least 18 months' experience in a similar grants-related role, including experience of prospect research, application writing, drafting and managing budgets, reporting to funders and managing relationships with funders
  • Demonstrable experience of securing significant income from Charitable trusts and foundations
  • Experience of developing a sustainable fundraising strategy for trusts and foundations
  • A proven track record of successfully cultivating relationships with charitable trusts and foundations
  • Good working knowledge of major UK and international funders in the human rights, asylum and refugee and health sectors

  • To be a strategic thinker
  • Excellent ability to accurately communicate in writing and in person
  • High standard of numeracy and budgeting skills

Please note that the successful candidate will be offered the job subject to suitable references and a DBS (CRB) check.

The people we work with have been subjected to atrocities including state-sponsored torture, human trafficking, religious and political persecution, forced labour, sexual exploitation, gender-based and ‘honour-based’ violence.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the people we support are free and healthy (both physically and mentally), are safe, are protected from re-victimisation, detention and poverty, and have the ability and agency to integrate in and contribute to the communities around them.
