This is an exciting time to join the Communications Team, as we just celebrated the first anniversary of our ambitious awareness-raising campaign, More Than My Past that aims to change public perception of crime and addiction by showcasing real life stories of a broad range of people who have successfully turned their lives around. 2021 will see us move into a new phase of this campaign – further building levels of engagement via external, internal and digital channels.

What you will be doing?

In addition to leading on external communications, line managing the Communications Officer and being an integral part of a wider Communications Team whose overall remit includes:


• PR and media relations • Public Affairs • Social media • Brand and creative services • Marketing and promotion • Internal communications and employee engagement • Digital transformation (delivery of digital services in new ways to staff, service users and stakeholders).

The right candidate will bring their knowledge and enthusiasm from previous experience in a related communications role.


What we are looking for?

Significant experience of successfully managing either/all aspects or some aspects of external communications of an organisation – whether in brand and marketing, public affairs or media. Solid understanding of a variety of communications tactics and practices.

Experience of managing at least one other person and ensuring they deliver against objectives successfully. Proven ability to build strong relationships with external stakeholders resulting in the successful promotion of your organisation, and able to represent Forward in a positive and professional manner. 

Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to explain and summarise issues in an understandable and approachable manner, relevant to the audience. A positive and proactive problem-solving approach with the initiative to focus on key issues quickly and clearly.
