Director for Wilder Yorkshire (Policy & Partnerships)

York

Circa £51,000 p.a

Permanent Contract with up to 9% Employer Pension Contribution

Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental leader to join their team as the Director for Wilder Yorkshire (Policy & Partnerships). The trust has over 44,000 members and manages more than 100 nature reserves showcasing some of the best wildlife Yorkshire has to offer, stretching from the uplands to the coast and into the cities too.

They are seeking someone with the knowledge, insight and passion for wildlife who can help create compelling policy positions for the Trust, to create the influence and action to deliver their ‘30 by 30’ vision for Wilder Yorkshire. Their ambition is to see a nature recovery network which means at least 30% of Yorkshire’s land and sea managed will be positively for wildlife by 2030.

Our client cannot deliver this vision alone, therefore, they are looking for someone who is motivated by creating win-win partnerships created by ongoing collaboration. Diplomacy and an ability to utilise data and evidence effectively is essential to tackle the complex issues we must resolve to ensure caring for nature is at the heart of Yorkshire’s future.

Experience of working at a strategic level is essential, preferably within the environmental sector, although senior experience in other sectors may be relevant such as economic development, agriculture, academic or governmental/political contexts.  You will manage a small team of technical specialists and work with colleagues across the Trust and beyond to deliver an ambitious programme of work. Excellent communication and people management skills are needed, combined with the knowledge of how to support inclusivity internally and externally. Experience which demonstrates an ability to create relevant content for diverse audiences for our partnership, campaigning and fundraising activities would be welcomed.

This new role will report to the Chief Executive as part of the senior leadership team, working together to take their strategy from intention to meaningful action through innovative and impactful work programmes. They have declared a climate and ecological emergency and committed to being a strong voice for wildlife in the coming years to bring about nature’s recovery – can you help share their messages with land managers and the decision makers who can change the future for the better?

The trust is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity. If you think this role sounds like a great fit for you, please apply.
