General Manager
WWT London Wetland Centre, Barnes, London
£52,800 per annum (accommodation provided)
37.5 hours per week, 5 days from 7

WWT London Wetland Centre is an award-winning environmental visitor attraction in South West London, offering visitors the chance to discover a wealth of wildlife in 43 hectares of beautiful wetlands. 180,000 visitors a year come to experience the wildlife, enjoy a great day out and be inspired to support wetland conservation.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the UK’s leading wetland conservation charity. We are pioneers in saving threatened wetland wildlife, a centre for excellence in conservation science and experts in wetland management and creation. Around a million visitors a year engage with wetland nature at our ten sites around the UK, and we work nationally and internationally in key locations to balance conservation with sustainable livelihoods.

We have recently completed a review of our strategic priorities which includes ambitious targets for developing bigger and better wetlands, encouraging more people to take direct action for these unique places, and ensuring key decision makers around the world realise the essential role wetlands play in restoring nature, combating climate change and enhancing health and wellbeing.

In addition to the extensive wetland habitats that attract thousands of wild birds each year, the London Wetland Centre has a visitor centre with thriving retail, catering and events/private hire business, a living collection of wetland birds from around the world, a number of exhibits highlighting the importance of wetlands and dedicated wildlife viewing hides.

This is an exciting career opportunity for an outstanding General Manager - an inspiring leader with a track record in managing operations, able to deliver a positive future for the Centre with its team of dedicated staff and volunteers, and for all its visitors and supporters.

You must be an experienced and professional manager, ideally with a good mix of business, conservation and charity knowledge, who can deliver against ambitious and challenging targets. Your wealth of experience and proven track record will ideally have been gained within a visitor attraction and you are now looking for your next role to be part of something amazing.
As our General Manager, you will be required to develop a multi-talented team of highly motivated staff and volunteers. As a team, you will attract a growing number of visitors and supporters through membership recruitment and visitor marketing, providing them with an unforgettable experience on each and every visit.

You will manage all of your resources creatively and to maximum effect, developing the business through effective conservation, visitor engagement and commercial strategies, to deliver financial results.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service
  • Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
  • Life assurance
  • Free parking
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Free entry to all our centres

There is an opportunity for an on-site property to be provided as part of this role to enable better performance of duties.
