Job Details

We have an extremely exciting opportunity for an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Manager to join the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and help them to improve EDI within the profession so that it better reflects the people they serve. This new and influential position will lead on all EDI matters, to ensure that RCOT, as a membership organisation and professional body, has a culture that embraces and champions EDI.

The principles of equality and diversity are core to the practice of occupational therapy. RCOT sets the professional and educational standards for occupational therapy, providing leadership, guidance and information to its 34,500 members.

This is the opportune time to join the organisation as they start their journey implementing positive cultural change. The successful candidate will shape the strategy that will drive improvement in EDI for the membership organisation and influence that of the profession as a whole.

The main purpose of this role is to lead on changes that will have a significant and lasting impact on the evolution of an inclusive culture for RCOT that is reflected and promoted in all its activities and member services. This unique opportunity will allow an EDI expert to use their knowledge and experience to:

  • Lead, develop and implement a new and clear EDI strategy
  • Work with staff and members to identify changes, challenge racism and discrimination, promote best practice and improve understanding for RCOT and the occupational therapy profession.
  • Working with members, designing, running and overseeing RCOT member groups (webinars, forums, events).
  • Work with a wide range of networks including UNISON, AHP organisations, HCPC, Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic and LGBTQI etc.

This interesting role will collaborate with RCOT staff and members to ensure that RCOT services are appropriately designed so they support the diverse needs and requirements of the people who make up the profession. The role will also allow the EDI Manager to work creatively with the RCOT's experienced Marketing team to produce insightful and engaging communications to members about the positive changes that are being made.

This is a permanent role paying circa £52,000 per annum, based in RCOT's HQ at London Bridge, close to the vibrant Borough Market. Their office houses all the key business functions and this role will work closely with the senior team and across the whole organisation.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of developing EDI strategies and processes to transform organisations. Be a result driven applicant with a proven EDI track record and be able to lead and embed cultural changes. Have excellent communication skills and be a confident public speaker. This newly created job it will enable the EDI Manager to build strong, long lasting relationships with staff and members. It would also be beneficial to have experience of working for a membership or a non-profit organisation.

As an equal opportunity employer, RCOT actively encourages LGBTQ+, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic and disabled applicants and value the positive impact and difference it will have on their teams and organisation as a whole.
