(Remote with occasional in person meetings)
Are you a research professional or academic with a strong scientific background? Want to utilise your expertise to advance medical research, push scientific boundaries and end animal testing?
If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join a ground-breaking organisation as an Academic Science Trustee and be at the forefront of shaping a rich research portfolio that aims to end animal research.
Animal Free Research UK is the leading charity working for a world where human diseases are cured faster without animal suffering. By pioneering excellence, inspiring and supporting scientists and influencing change, we will end the use of animals and improve medical research.
By 2040, we aim to transform medical research and regulation so that the development of treatments for human diseases can be entirely animal free and breakthroughs achieved faster.
We fund a portfolio of excellent high impact scientific research projects within the UK that focuses on replacing the use of animals in medical research. We also work to overcome the barriers to animal free research, influence robust legislation and support scientists to develop human relevant research careers. Our pioneering work is funded by donations and legacies.
Our Board of Trustees plays a key role in setting our overall strategic direction and providing scrutiny to our processes and decisions, as well as ensuring standards of governance are upheld.
As Academic Science Trustee, you will help to strengthen our governance and drive forward the charity’s vision, mission and values. You’ll have opportunities to help shape our grant making strategy and approve research projects for funding with fellow Trustees, exposing you to a broad spectrum of disciplines and novel techniques in medical testing which will be both intellectually stimulating and rewarding.
Our current Academic Science Trustee is still in post, so you will benefit from a comprehensive handover, offering you the perfect opportunity to develop your knowledge and relationship with the Trustees and senior management team whilst ensuring you feel fully confident in the role.
