We’re now looking for a People and Development Officer to join our friendly team in Hull.

The Role

As our People and Development Officer, you will ensure the smooth running of the People & Development Office, which includes our hospice reception services. You will make sure that HR and L&D activities are being carried out safely, effectively and in a timely manner. 

You will be supported to grow your existing team building abilities and leadership skills to encourage collaborative working and boost productivity within the People and Development department.

In this important role, you will:

  • Line manage the People and Development Assistant and Volunteer Co-ordinator  
  • Advise staff on day-to-day HR queries, such as holiday, recruitment or sickness absence updates 
  • Work with the People and Development Assistant to supervise volunteers in the department
  • Help to ensure the smooth running of the reception rota, postal service, purchase order system and any stationery requisitions


About You 

To join us as a People and Development Officer, you will need: 

  • At least five years’ experience in a HR function 
  • At a minimum, a CIPD Level 5 qualification 
  • Basic up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR best practice 
  • Good problem-solving abilities 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills


Other organisations may call this role HR Officer, Human Resources Officer, People Officer, Human Resources Advisor, HR Co-ordinator, Human Resources Co-ordinator, L&D Co-ordinator, or Learning and Development Officer. 

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm (with a 30 minute unpaid break). For the right candidate, we would consider 30 hours per week, working Monday – Friday (daily times would be discussed, but five day coverage would need to be maintained).
