Centre & Reserve Manager
WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, Dumfries & Galloway
37.5 hours per week, 5 days from 7
£41,351 per annum

This is an inspiring career opportunity for someone looking to combine their extensive reserve management background with operations management experience in a broad leadership role to deliver a positive future for this amazing site, the staff and volunteers that work there and all of its visitors and supporters.

As the Centre & Reserve Manager, you will manage your resources creatively to achieve financial, conservation and visitor engagement targets, delivering the Trust’s agreed strategic and business objectives. You will lead and support a small, multi-functional team of staff and volunteers to develop the business in accordance with the Trust’s policies, procedures and operational frameworks. You will also fulfil the duties of Reserve Manager with full responsibility for development, implementation and review of the Reserve Management Plan for the Caerlaverock holdings.

Caerlaverock is a stunning nature reserve situated on the north Solway coast. Established as a winter refuge for the Svalbard breeding population of barnacle geese, it is considered one of the best wildlife watching sites in the UK. The Atlantic Saltmarsh at WWT Caerlaverock is among the most important saltmarsh systems in Britain. The Visitor Centre hosts a simple retail and catering offer and the site has a growing self-catering accommodation business.

You must be an experienced and professional manager, ideally with a good mix of operations, conservation and engagement experience, with a track record of leading a team to achieve challenging conservation and business targets.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity that protects wetlands for wildlife and people. For 70 years we have been pioneers in saving threatened wetland wildlife across the globe and are experts in wetland management and creation. We work with communities living among some of the most vulnerable wetlands in the world, providing leadership and influence to create a sustainable future for our wetlands, their wildlife and the people who depend upon them. We believe that showing people first-hand how extraordinary wetlands are can ignite their passion to help us conserve them, so we provide amazing experiences at our unique UK wetland centres for over one million visitors every year.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service
  • Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
  • Life assurance
  • Free parking
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free entry to all our centres
