Chief Operating Officer

Salary – Up to £60k
Location – Our London Head Office
Permanent
Closing Date – 5pm on Friday 27th November 2020

User Voice has an exciting opportunity to lead the core operational delivery within our ambitious, growing charity.

But this is not your average operations role.

User Voice was created for, and is run by, people who have been in prison and on probation.

We are resilient by nature and work alongside, rather than within, the criminal justice system. We are servant leaders, accountable to the people we serve. It’s a gloves off role for someone who believes change is possible, who wants to see and make it happen.

Working at User Voice is an opportunity to challenge the status quo. We’re an organisation for people who want to speak up and shout the voices of people in the criminal justice system. We’re an organisation of people who trust our own voice and believe in amplifying the voices of others. We’re an organisation focused on the people experiencing the sharp end of criminal justice.

We are looking for an experienced leader, who shares these values, has knowledge of the criminal justice system and is an expert in developing people and teams.

Founded in 2009, User Voice has grown significantly, with 5 regional teams, 30+ staff, the delivery of 40 contracts and an income of over £1.3 million.

Our founder is an inspirational leader who is committed to the charity’s mission and driven to build upon the charity’s success. He is seeking an experienced individual to take the operational reigns of its core, contracted services and bring the overall vision to life. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring we deliver on these growth aspirations and continue to establish exceptional services.

The COO will hold the primary responsibility of leading User Voice’s day-to-day operations of its core, contracted services in accordance with the values, strategic plan and operating budgets. This is a fast-paced, evolving environment which will require tenacity and determination to lead.

The successful candidate will hold the demonstrable ability and experience to:

  • Enable a culture that promotes collaboration, responsibility and ensures individuals are focused on enabling the service user
  • Define, monitor and develop the User Voice core operating model
  • Define clear objectives, goals, strategies and measures to support the Board and the leadership focus activities across the business, both for short-term performance and long-term growth
  • Lead the operations of User Voice and manage the performance of the Senior Leadership Team

User Voice is not only a successful charity but is genuinely committed to paving the way within the sector to make the criminal justice system work for everyone. User Voice is determined to ignite positive change for institutions, individuals, and the overall agenda by putting people with lived experience at the heart of our purpose.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to lead a unique and varied operational team, and impact upon the wider business. We have the resources and ambition to achieve our mission. Now we need the right leader who shares our values, has knowledge of the criminal justice system and is an expert in developing people and teams to help steer our path to get there.

To apply for this exciting role, please click on the apply button shown and follow the instructions to complete your application.

First stage interviews will take place on the w/c Monday 7th December 2020.

Webrecruit and User Voice are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.

Company

We were created by and are run by people who have been in prison and on probation. Lived experience means we engage empathetically instead of sympathetically.

We exist to reduce offending by working with the most marginalised people in and around the criminal justice system to make sure that practitioners and policy-makers hear their voices.
