About Development Initiatives (DI)

Our vision is a world without poverty that invests in human security and where everyone shares the benefits of opportunity and growth.

We are an independent international development organisation that focuses on putting data-driven decision-making at the heart of poverty eradication.

We’re currently looking for a Board Chair to play an important role in supporting our Executive Director (ED) to drive the organisation forward and deliver our strategic objectives.

The Benefits

Salary of £6,000 per annum

If you are an individual with exemplary leadership skills and a strategic mindset, this is a superb opportunity to lead and push our organisation to new heights of success and strategic innovation.

Our environment is fast-paced and often demanding as we respond to global crisis and interact with senior-level individuals on the world stage. As such, we are looking for a leader who can work in an agile manner, reflective of our ethos and support our work at the highest echelons.

The Role

As Board Chair, you will be responsible for leading and facilitating the board to enable our team to exercise their responsibilities as effectively and impactfully as possible. You will ensure the Board has timely and sufficient information to enable them to perform their role.

Specifically, you will:

  • Act as a direct liaison between the Board and the management of the DI Group, through the Executive Directors
  • Provide independent advice and counsel to the Executive Directors
  • Represent the organisation in an ambassadorial role on occasion

Importantly, we will want you to challenge the organisation to think big and bold when it comes to our initiatives and future.

We would expect a commitment of one day a month from you, as well as chairing quarterly DIPR Board meetings; this will also involve preparing for meetings and supporting the Executive Directors on other Board meetings. In total, we would expect a commitment of 18 days a year from you.

About You

To join us as Board Chair, you’ll need:

  • Previous experience of chairing or deputising as Chair, including mobilising members of a board
  • Demonstrable leadership experience at a senior level
  • Experience of enacting effective change in an organisation at a senior level

Equally as important, you’ll need to feel as passionately about the change we are trying to achieve through our work.

Other organisations may call this role Chairperson, Chairman, Chairwoman, Board Member, or Deputy Chair.
