Forest Creation Manager
Nr Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire

About Us

The National Forest Company (NFC) is leading the creation of a restored forest landscape in the heart of the Midlands, an area left  scarred by years of coal mining and heavy industry.

Since 1995, we’ve been creating a forest on a scale not seen in England for 1,000 years and so far we’ve planted nearly 9 million trees across 200 square miles across parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. And we aren’t finished yet…

We’re now looking for a Forest Creation Manager to join our team and support the expansion of the National Forest and the effective management of our woodlands.

The Benefits

- Salary range of £35,540 - £40,411 per annum
- Choice of public sector pension schemes
- Staff bonuses
- 30 days’ annual leave and 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
- Learning and development opportunities
- Employee assistance programme
- Flexible working options

This is the ideal role for a land management professional with land and forestry project experience and exceptional relationship building skills to take on a new challenge with our organisation as we seek to change this part of the Midlands.

The forest we are creating is meant for everyone and everything, to be enjoyed and appreciated by all. Be it the natural world around us, the forest communities themselves or the people who come to visit the forest, learn about its importance and heritage. Our role, and your position, is to facilitate life, growth and the expansion of the forest.

The ecosystem we are creating requires careful management to continue growing in order for us to achieve our vision. Your role in these efforts will be of paramount importance and will see you not only playing a vital role in forest management but also growing the footprint of the National Forest to enable us to provide homes to more animals, bring people closer to nature and make this a greener, more environmentally focused place.

The Role

As the Forest Creation Manager, you will undertake a role with a broad remit to both deliver on forest creation targets, that are in line with our vision and government plans, and to take responsibility for the woodland and habitat management that is so important to enable the environment we’ve created to thrive.

In this engaging role, you will work to support the Government’s 25 year Environment Plan and our vision, which includes implementing the Nature for Climate Fund programme over the next five years.

You will seek to maximise opportunities for land use change and build strong effective relationships with national and local partners, farmers and landowners. Ensuring the right incentives are in place, you will make sure the up-take of these is maximised and our land use projects can go ahead.

Additionally, you will also lead a team to manage the woodland, dealing with pests and disease and handling woodland economy programmes. Your team will include Woodlands Advisors, a Woodland Business Advisor, volunteers and individuals on placement.

About You

To be considered as the Forest Creation Manager, you will need:

- At least five years’ relevant experience in a similar management role
- Experience of leading complex multi-purpose land and forestry related projects, such as creation, management, landowner and business engagement
- Significant relationship management experience, including facilitating collaboration between organisations, landowners, groups, and individuals
- A relevant degree or post-graduate qualification

Other organisations may call this role Strategic Land Manager, Land Manager, Forestry Development Manager, Woodland Advisor, Forestry Consultant, or Land Consultant.

The closing date for this role is the 16th November 2020.
