18m FTC FP&A Analyst, South East London – Higher Education, up to £55,000

A London based university is looking for a qualified FP&A Analyst to join their team for an 18-month fixed term contract. Suitable candidates will have an accountancy qualification and lots of experience with large data sets and is comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders. This role sits as part of a large finance function, reporting directly into the Finance Director.    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuous improvement mindset, suggesting and implementing improvements to systems and processes
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels, to include the ability to summarise and present information effectively, writing clear reports, and designing effective outputs
  • Taking ownership of work produced
  • Inquisitive attitude to investigating and resolving problems
  • Collaborative and supportive approach with a solution focused mindset
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts including liaison with finance colleagues for the latest updates, analytical reporting and preparing the first draft of any papers.
  • Leading on forecasting student tuition fee income, both in year and in future years, analysing large volumes of data and working closely with the Planning and Statistics team
  • Maintaining and updating the budget and forecast spreadsheets for the university, co-ordinating the collection of inputs from across the finance team, reconciling versions, updating the CFO and ADF on key movements, maintaining a detailed evidence and workings file, and preparing summary and presentational data for committees
  • Any other reporting requirements as they arise during the financial year
  • Work closely with Finance and Planning teams to ensure that student number and tuition fee modelling requirements are delivered, including scenario modelling over a number of years
  • Analysis of high volumes of student data and delivery of key insights
  • Reconciliation of complex data sets
  • Construction of scenario-based forecasts

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA accountant
  • Can be straight from practice or come from an industry background
  • Not for Profit experience, particularly higher education, would be a bonus but not essential
  • Highly computer literate with advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and computerised accounts systems
  • Proactive, solution focussed individual
  • Lots of experience with very large data sets
  • Ready to drive for improvements and change within the team
  • Strong presenting and interpersonal skills
