We are Dove House Hospice, a dedicated service supporting patients with life limiting illnesses. Providing a range of therapies, services and support, we aim to make the hardest part of life manageable within a sustainable, comfortable and caring environment.

We aim to continuously develop and provide the best service and support, having recently received the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For award, placing within the top 10.

We are now looking for a Head of Support Services to ensure we are providing the best possible care to everyone accessing our services.

The Rewards

  • Salary of £35,581 - £39,400 per annum
  • Mileage paid
  • 22 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays
  • Additional leave for long service is available
  • Matched pension contributions
  • Up to 6 months’ full occupational sick pay (based on service length)
  • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Shared Parental Leave pay

If you are ready to make a difference with your estates and facilities management career and possess in-depth skills and experience, this is the ideal role in which to step up and make an impact.

Our teams are passionate and dedicated but need the right leadership to ensure that our work is the best it can be – and that’s where you come in.

We support patients and their families during the hardest part of their lives and your expertise and leadership will mean that we can continue to deliver the highest quality services right across our organisation.

So, if you are ready for the next stage in your career and can make a positive change, we are waiting to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

As the Head of Support Services, you will be tasked with leading staff and volunteers to provide an essential support service for the whole hospice, ensuring that quality care can continue to be provided. This may be directly in support of the care services, the income generation team who work to fund our operations or any of the other teams working across the organisation.

Within your teams, you will inspire great customer service to ensure quality services are maintained. You will also take charge of procurement and contract management and you will oversee the catering, housekeeping and estates departments.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in strategy development and responses to operational issues that extend beyond your remit. Additionally, you will ensure that the wellbeing of hospice staff and volunteers is prioritised and the future of the organisation is secure.

What skills and experience will I need?

To be considered as the Head of Support Services, you will need:

  • Experience of working in a similar facilities and estates management role
  • Experience in people management and the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Knowledge of COSHH and Health and Safety legislation in the workplace
  • Experience of property and/or asset management
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of costing techniques and budgetary control
  • To be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience

A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent would be beneficial to your application, as would experience of working in the not-for-profit sector. Experience of working with and supervising volunteers would also be an advantage, as would experience of managing Health and Safety procedures in a previous role.

Other organisations may call this role Head of Operations, Head of Facilities, Head of Estates Management, Senior Facilities Manager, or Head of Support Operations.
