Job Details

Partnerships Lead, Business Development Team
London, SW1 (office and home based)

The Opportunity
As Partnerships Lead, you will take the lead in securing new income for PEAS as well as developing and delivering a first-class stewardship programme for PEAS’ strategic partners (Technical Education specialists), corporate, major donor and trust and foundation supporters.

You’ll be joining a small team of extremely committed, proactive, effective and values aligned fundraisers. This team is well supported by the rest of UK, Uganda, and Zambia teams – we are proud to have developed a strong ‘everyone’s a fundraiser’ mindset at PEAS, thus avoiding the traditional division between programme and fundraising. So, the successful candidate will need to be able to collaborate and build strong relationships with colleagues in all three countries.

This is an exciting role for an enthusiastic and resourceful person with strong strategic, relationship, communication and organisational skills who will inspire and engage prospective and current partners with PEAS’ work to foster and continually strengthen long-term relationships.

The ideal candidate will have experience of raising six figure amounts from a variety of funder types and will be able to adapt their style and approach accordingly. Experience working in Education and International Development is preferable.

Key areas of focus
Proportion of time spent on each area are approximates.

  • Manage a portfolio of funders to maintain and increase support from PEAS’ current donors which will include strategic partners, corporates, trust and foundations, major donors and potentially institutional funders (50%)
  • Identify and secure new funding opportunities (40%)
  • Take an active role in developing engaging communications for current and prospective partners (10%)

The ideal candidate

No matter the role, we are looking for people who believe in what we do and how we do it; people who are passionate about transforming lives through education and aligned to our values.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • At least three years’ experience in account and project management
  • Experience of preparing substantive reports, budgets, proposals, presentations and undertaking pitches to secure funding and support
  • A proven track record in meeting income generation and other targets in a fundraising or commercial context
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience in donor account management (ideally in strategic partners, institutional, corporate, major donor and/or trust and foundations), or similar roles within the not-for-profit or commercial sector
  • Understanding of current international development issues and an understanding of, and commitment to, PEAS’ aims and values
  • Experience of working in an education setting/organisation focused on education
  • Experience of working in Uganda, Zambia or sub Saharan Africa desirable

Skills and Abilities

  • Ambitious and goal-oriented, always looking to push yourself, and the team, to achieve the most you can in your role
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to a changing funding landscape
  • Motivated to work to financial targets
  • Proven ability to build strong and lasting relationships with senior external stakeholders and confident enough to make “the ask” to turn positive contacts into income for PEAS
  • Ease in maintaining good, positive working relations with colleagues
  • Ability to juggle priorities and work on own initiative
  • Ability to lead and influence projects without managing those projects
  • Ability to motivate and inspire colleagues, including remotely
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Willing and able to work occasional unsocial hours and undertake occasional travel overseas

You may have previously worked as an Account Manager, Project Manager, Partnerships Manager, Fundraising Manager, Major Donor Manager, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, Philanthropy Manager, or Corporate Partnerships Manager.

Benefits

  • £34,000 - £38,000 based on experience
  • 28 days’ annual leave + bank holidays
  • Matched contribution-based pension of up to 6%
  • Flexible working
  • International travel
  • Being part of a small and friendly team who are all committed, supportive, driven and values aligned

Note: We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis with a view to do staggered interviews therefore we strongly recommend submitting your application as soon as possible.

PEAS is unlocking the potential of Africa by delivering affordable, quality secondary education to boys and girls in Uganda and Zambia where currently only 1 in 4 children go to secondary school. We currently educate 14,000 poor and marginalised children, and are the fastest growing network of sustainably financed secondary schools in Africa.  Our innovative financial model is beginning to turn heads.  In 2013, PEAS was recognised as Charity of the Year and won a WISE Award for Innovation in Education. In 2013, we were named one of Rockefeller Foundation’s top 100 Global Social Innovators   Peas has big ambitions on behalf of African children, and we aim to get 12,000 more students into school in the next few years.
