Media Manager (News)

£31,971 - Flexible working options

Living Planet Centre Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL

Are you used to working in a busy press office or newsroom and do you know how to use compelling storytelling to increase visibility through the media?  Would you like to use your skills and expertise for good?  Join WWF in the fight for our world as a Media Manager in our News team.

Join us at WWF UK and you will help to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together. As Media Manager you will proactively generate positive and agenda-setting media coverage of our work in advocacy, campaigning and fundraising. We want you to help make our message the loudest, most respected and reliable in the UK media, and to grab the attention of the public and decision makers so they join the fight for our world.

This will involve building relationships with national news journalists and connecting them with our stories, projects and campaigns. You will confidently pitch stories and ideas to media outlets to maximise exposure within a variety of media types. You will also gather content, produce press releases and coach colleagues for media interviews. You will be a reliable and valuable member of our busy news team, answering journalist inquiries as well as getting involved in monitoring and evaluating the success of media activities and joining our on-call rota.

You will have worked in a busy media office and can demonstrate a track record of delivering high quality media coverage.  An excellent communicator, you will also write and produce content to a high standard, at short notice and often under pressure.  Important will be the ability to spot and exploit media opportunities.  You will have an excellent understanding of media landscapes and strong project delivery skills.

This position offers flexible working. Our team is based at the Living Planet Centre in Woking but we  welcome applications from candidates who would spend some of their week working from home or another location.

How to Apply

If you have the skills to change hearts and minds through great media work and are passionate about building a movement in defence of nature, we’d love to hear from you. Please visit our website to complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up to date CV with cover letter highlighting what makes you the perfect fit for the role and what sets you apart from the competition.

Closing Date: Sunday 4th October 2020

At WWF-UK we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment, where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community and we offer a range of benefits and flexible workplace options to encourage a work life balance.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We’re looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
