Veolia is looking for the ideal candidate to join Veolia Environmental Trust as the Executive Director, supporting the Chairman and the Board to fulfil their strategic governance responsibilities and regulatory compliances. 

What you’ll do

As the Executive Director of Veolia Environmental Trust, you will be responsible for the leadership and management of the organisation in the execution of the Trust’s policies and decisions. The role will enable the creation of strategy and future plans for the Trust whilst overseeing financial management to safeguard the charity and ensure sustainability.  

The Executive Directors day to day responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the Trust’s grantmaking activities effectively,  meeting the regulatory and other requirements of the Landfill Communities Funds
  • Responsible for strategically driving the Trust forward, by creating, implementing and leading the medium and long term strategy for Veolia Environmental Trust
  • Management of the grant process ensuring it is accessible, fair, accountable, and fully compliant
  • Provide accurate advice, reporting, annual reports, regular grant criteria analysis and information to the Board and external partners
  • Providing solutions to data analysis ensuring the grant criteria is updated to reflect trends
  • Organise and oversee any events or public meetings on behalf of the Trust
  • In conjunction with the Chairman, develop policy and strategy proposals for Board discussion and ensure compliance throughout the organisation
  • Ensure the Trust has the best possible communication systems and use of information, in line with equal opportunities for all
  • Accountable for driving employee engagement and managing the employee lifecycle, ensuring there are development and growth opportunities and plans throughout the team
  • Ensure that all necessary financial management processes are in place and that Trust policies and procedures are adhered to, along with management of Trust budget
  • Ensure that Charity Commission and ENTRUST requirements are fully met, including administration and grant-making budgets
  • Create and maintain effective networks with stakeholders and others within the sector to promote the Trust and its work; identify the potential for working partnerships with peer organisations
  • Support the Chairman of the Trust to ensure the Board is able to operate efficiently, with annual meetings timetable and regular reports
  • Ensure that Trustees are able to operate within legal requirements and those of the Charity Commission, Companies House and ENTRUST
  • Developing positive relationships with ENTRUST and HMRC 

The experience you will need

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • A significant experience at senior management level and managing projects/services 
  • Ability to manage a P&L
  • A genuine interest in supporting environmental and community projects, with an understanding of the challenges they face
  • Strong and effective leadership and attention to quality and detail
  • Ability to analyse and report on complex information
  • Experience of managing large and varied workloads
  • Must hold a current car driving licence

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of charitable grant-making including Landfill Communities Fund, environmental issues and the waste industry
  • An overall understanding of the charity sector
  • Experience in the overall management of a small organisation or charity
  • Human Resources qualification or significant experience of HR-related issues
