We are the largest funder of community activity in the UK and thanks to National Lottery players last year we funded over 14000 projects. Our core purpose is to support people and communities to thrive and this is delivered through our strategic framework – People in the Lead. We play a key role in supporting communities across the UK, something that is more important than ever as people and organisations attempt to survive, recover and support others through the coronavirus crisis. Every year we award about £600 million of funding raised by players of The National Lottery, and at any one time have around 30,000 funded projects in operation.

About the Role:
We have a strong corporate commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in our funding but recognise that there is more to do. We are striving to make our funding even more flexible and accessible to everyone, promoting diversity and inclusion throughout society. This role is key in supporting us to continuously improve and is an exciting opportunity to develop our capacity to meet the funding needs of the diverse communities we work with.
We’re looking for an engaging and passionate leader who will champion EDI, challenge the status quo and help us identify areas for intervention and transformation. With a natural ability to network, listen and build authentic relationships with key stakeholders, partners, communities and colleagues, you will help us ensure that equity, diversity and inclusion is embedded in all that we do and that we are truly delivering on the principle that our funding is for everyone.
Working in our Funding Strategy function, you will be a key member of the Fund’s leadership team, with experience and expertise in tackling inequality, providing expert EDI advice and guidance to key decision makers.
You will ensure EDI remains a strategic priority for all, delivering a UK- wide EDI strategy for our funding. Working closely with all portfolios and functions, colleague networks and the Fund Diversity and Inclusion groups, you will role model inclusive behaviours and bring to life the EDI ambitions of the Fund.
As well as extensive experience and knowledge of working within the EDI field, your stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills will be key to success. You will have experience of influencing and inspiring at all levels, both internally and externally, gaining trust and delivering messages appropriately to a diverse audience, including in holding the organisation accountable. You will have a track record of:
- Making a difference in leading work to reduce inequalities and promote equitable outcomes in a community or funding environment.
- Successfully implementing significant change in a complex organisation, managing competing priorities.
- Developing internal and external stakeholders networks, building consensus and influencing positively to deliver concrete outcomes.
- Using evidence and data to inform policy, practice and decision-making.
- Knowledge of relevant equalities legislation relating to service provision for a public sector body.
